Defiance College Bonner Leaders Program
Defiance College is a Bonner Foundation supportive program, which students can receive financial aid for their completion of 200 hours of service throughout each academic year.  Bonner Leaders complete service such as managing tutoring programs, building and/or repairing homes for low-income, planning and implementing fundraising initiatives for children’s hospitals, serving meals to the homeless, and much more.  The Bonner Leaders must attend monthly class and All Bonner Leader meetings on various issues and development stages based upon the Bonner Curriculum.  As a result, the student will understand more about the world around them and themselves.  Bonner Leaders range in sophomore class level to senior year level.

During the fall, Defiance College sophomore students may submit a resume, essay, and participate in an interview process to be considered in the Bonner Leaders program.

Bonner Foundation Story
The Bonner Foundation was founded by Bertram F. Bonner and his wife, Corella A. Bonner.  Bertram was a successful businessman.  When he lost his fortune in the stock market crash of ‘29, he was still successful in returning to his former fortune status.  Like her husband, Corella was born into poverty and wanted to use their fortune as a valuable asset and resource to help others.  The Bonner Foundation was designed to provide access to higher education and an opportunity for students to serve.

The Bonner Foundation supports the Bonner Scholars Program, Bonner Leaders Program, and other initiates that engage students and more than 70 colleges and universities on improving the lives of individuals and communities.  Bonner work strengthens student development, community impact, and campus infrastructure while promoting civic engagement, community building, diversity, international perspective, spiritual exploration, and social justice.
