Defiance College’s accounting major is designed for students who want a solid foundation in all functional aspects of business plus specialized courses in accounting. This professional program is for those seeking to enter the public accounting profession or other accounting positions within organizations or companies. Students may select the traditional four-year plan of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in accounting, or they may select Master's in Business Administration program. On-the-job training is provided through internships and cooperative education experiences, along with service-learning opportunities.
The accounting program works with local companies to facilitate internships for students, giving them real-world experience to put on their resume. Opportunities exist in other countries for students to gain a broader perspective by designing and completing a business project through the McMaster School. In the spring, students have the opportunity to work with the Ohio Benefit Bank to provide tax-free preparation and submission to low income families. These experiences will provide DC students with the skills, knowledge, and abilities that will broaden their perspectives in a diverse world.
Forensic accounting is available as a concentration within the accounting major. The forensic accounting concentration equips students with the skills to understand the prevention, detection, and legal aspects of fraudulent transactions and reports. It provides a general overview of digital forensics and forensic accounting to complement the accounting and business courses.
Benefits of the Program
Accounting majors take part in a wide range of experiential learning opportunities.
Whether developing a micro-lending program in Cambodia or an accounting system for
a local business, students exercise their business language skills to become better
employees and stronger leaders. Defiance College connects students to job fairs throughout
the state and works closely with companies to expand the students’ knowledge of real-life
experience. The small college atmosphere opens avenues and personal connections that
are not found on a larger campus.

of courses that show you the different aspects of accounting. The small class sizes
allow professors to get to know and interact with their students. Professors bring
