Commencement Photos 2010

Defiance College awarded diplomas to 235 graduates on Sunday, May 9, during a noontime ceremony under bright blue skies on the campus colonnade. Dr. Vincent Harding, an associate of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., delivered the commencement address. Graduating senior Austin Kleman of Sidney, Ohio, was awarded the bronze Pilgrim Medal, the most prestigious award presented by the college, recognizing “reliance in self, pride in work, courage in conscience, strength in education, and faith in God.” Beverly Harrington was awarded the title Registrar Emerita upon her recent retirement after a 40-year career with the college. And in an emotional tribute to a long-time Defiance College administrator and faculty member, President Mark Gordon presented the family of Dean Emeritus Richard W. Stroede with a plaque recognizing establishment of the Richard W. Stroede Scholarship. Dr. Stroede was scheduled to appear at commencement ceremonies, but he had been battling a life-threatening illness for several months and died on Saturday, May 8. Son, Andrew Stroede, and daughter, Beth Moehle, accepted the plaque in honor of their father.
