McMaster Fellow

Robin Kratzer, Faculty, Director of Academic Resource Center – This project will work with the teachers at Holy Cross Anglican School in Ambergris Caye, Belize to create a Technology Curriculum for all grades at the school (equivalent of grades K-8 in US). It will work to develop and model lessons integrating technology into the existing curriculum. It will also assist in developing adult education classes for San Mateo Residents to build computer skills and enable them to find more skilled jobs.

McMaster Associate Fellows

Joshua Francis, Faculty, Education – This project will research the causes of domestic violence within the community and educate teachers at Holy Cross Anglican School on the consequences of reinforcing negative behavior with their current classroom management techniques while providing them with effective practices focused on positive reinforcement .

Cindy Shaffer, Staff, Director of Planned Giving – This project will support the learning community logistically and scholar projects while researching the most useful future projects based on needs of community partner.

McMaster Scholars

Nicole Grim, Sophomore, Middle Childhood Education – This project will work with the teachers at Holy Cross Anglican School to incorporate physical experiments in the science curriculum. It will focus on developing lessons plans for experiments that can be used at various grade levels as well as grade specific experiments.

Sarah Hornish, Junior, Early Childhood Education – This project will focus on developing a reading literacy program at Holy Cross Anglican School that includes positive reinforcement guidelines. This will be developed by analyzing methods currently being used and offering developmentally age appropriate reading literacy activities to the teachers.

Rachael Lange, Sophomore, Life Science/Chemistry – This project will focus on developing interactive lessons in science and providing those lesson plans to the teachers at Holy Cross Anglican School and modeling the lessons for teachers and students.

Aubrie Ridinger, Sophomore, Integrated Social Studies – This project will provide teachers at Holy Cross Anglican School with interactive instructional strategies in the area of social studies. It will focus on teaching strategies that offer instructors new styles to engage students and provide a positive learning environment.

Blake Ruffer, Sophomore, Integrated Mathematics – This project will focus on working with the teachers at Holy Cross Anglican School on lessons, activities and teaching strategies in mathematics. Particular attention will be paid to developing activities dealing with math manipulatives and incorporating technology in the lessons.

Tyler Thomas, Sophomore, Integrated Mathematics – This project will focus on providing the teachers at Holy Cross Anglican School with pedagogy for teaching mathematics. It will focus on instructional strategies for using manipulatives and technology.
