Fort Defiance Players and the DC Players present "Hairspray"
October 3, 2012
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College’s DC Players and the Fort Defiance Players blend a cast of college students, high school students, faculty, and community members to present “Hairspray,” a musical based on the book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Performances will be Oct. 18-20 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Defiance Community Auditorium, downtown Defiance.
“Hairspray” is set in 1962 Baltimore and focuses on a pleasantly plump teenage Tracy Turnbald and her dream to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a popular teenage dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. However, she must use her newfound power and the help of a crazy cast of characters to dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her ‘do. “Hairspray” is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s.
