Defiance College student group to sponsor silent auction

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College student chapter of Free the Slaves will host a holiday fundraising mixer on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Serrick Campus Center. The event will feature a silent auction to raise monies to fight human trafficking. Location is the Hubbard Banquet Room from 6 to 9 p.m., and special guest will be the newly-crowned Miss Northwestern Ohio 2015, Nicole Baringer.

Free the Slaves is an international organization, the largest antislavery group in the world. Defiance College students formed a chapter of Free the Slaves earlier this year, and the chapter has held events to raise awareness as well as funds.

The holiday silent auction will feature a variety of items for bid including a vacation stay at a Myrtle Beach, S.C., condominium, gift certificates to local businesses, sports memorabilia, and other items. Donations for the auction are still being accepted.

The DC Free the Slaves chapter is led by officers Chelsea Bell, president; Ashley Tompkins, vice president; Cali Hazel, secretary; and Jennifer Wedge, treasurer.
