December 8, 2014
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College Music Programs in conjunction with the Northwesternaires
Barbershop Chorus will be presenting a “Holiday Blend” concert on Saturday, Dec. 13,
at 7 p.m. at the Defiance Community Auditorium.
The program will feature three musical groups all performing different styles of your favorite holiday music.
The Northwesternaires Chorus has members from more than 25 different communities in Northwest Ohio and is a chartered chorus in an international organization known as the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly SPEBSQSA). The fun-loving, chord locking and show stopping chorus is not to be missed performing music of the season under the direction of Jim Shisler. “We are an organization of amateur singers who are willing to go a little farther than some to always sing well and perform with our best effort,” says Shisler.
The DCples is a 12-member mixed chamber ensemble out of the DC Chamber Singers. The group specializes in “spreadin’ the good tunes!” Accompanied by harpist Christina Muntz, the group will offer beautiful melodies and also a special arrangement of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” “This is a fun and very talented group of students who put on a great show,” says Andrew Schultz, director of music programs at Defiance College.
Members of The DCples include: Philip Balla, Rossford; Marissa Bramble, Milford, Pa.; David Brown, Columbus; Samantha Butler, Monroe; Erin Conner, Sycamore; Bria Double, Lyons; Mandie Heil, Lindsay Kasmer, Medina; Joe Kudela, Vermillion; George Roth, Defiance; and Alexis Walker, Fort Myers, Fla.
The Holiday Brass features five local musicians; Tom Jenny and Don Clark, trumpet; Doug Olenik, horn; Lonnie Warnke, trombone; and Austin Brown, tuba. Under the leadership of Doug Olenik, the Holiday Brass Ensemble will feature holiday favorites including a few sing-a-longs.
The event is $5 general admission with tickets available at the door.
