Defiance College musicians selected for state honor band

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Six members of the Defiance College Bands were represented at the Ohio Private Colleges Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA) Honor Band this past weekend at Malone University in Canton. The honor band was selected from 15 Ohio private colleges and universities with more than 100 students participating in the concert band.

Students accepted into the OPCICA Honor Band from Defiance College were Keira Grandey (clarinet) of Stryker, Rachel Simon (clarinet) of West Chester, Brad Matson (alto saxophone) of Paulding, Allison Behrendt (baritone saxophone) of North Olmsted, Remick Pearson (trumpet) of Stokesdale, N.C., and Katrina Huffman (tuba) of Edwardsburg, Mich. They were accompanied to Malone by DC director of bands Bridget Olenik.

The students participated in rehearsals on Saturday and Sunday, culminating with a concert on Sunday afternoon.
