DC Black Swamp Symphony Orchestra to present concert May 1

April 20, 2015

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Black Swamp Symphony Orchestra will be performing its final concert of the 2014-2015 season, titled “Masterworks and Friends.”

The performance will be held at St. John United Church of Christ on the Defiance College campus on Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m.

The DCBSSO consists of more than 60 Defiance College students, community members of all ages, and professional musicians performing quality orchestral repertoire for the greater Defiance area.

This concert will feature the beautiful works of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” ballet and Sibelius’s “Finlandia” symphonic poem. The other portion of the program includes soloists that will be featured with the orchestra. Soloists include orchestra members Elyse Mosier (violin) and Matthew Hogan (violin).

Also featured on the program is Defiance College soprano Lindsay Kasmer and the DCBSSO principal French horn Scott Fisher. He will perform movements from the Mozart Horn Concerto No. 3 K447 on the natural horn, an instrument from the early 19th century that would have been used for this concerto when the piece was written.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. performance. Admission is free and open to the public. Free will donations are accepted.
