When should I apply for Financial Aid?
As soon as possible after January 1! Defiance College’s priority deadline is March 1.

How often do I need to apply for Financial Aid?
Students must reapply every year by completing the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1.

How does Defiance College determine financial need?
Need is based on the following: Cost of Attendance – Expected Family Contribution (EFC) = Financial Need. The EFC is determined by information reported on the FAFSA. The EFC is used to determine all need-based aid. The calculation formula for the EFC is established by law.

What can I do if my or my parent's income has changed?
You may apply for a Special Circumstance if you have had a significant change in income or benefits. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss your situation.

What should I do if I find an error on Student Aid Report (SAR)?
Corrections to your SAR can be made online using your PIN. Simply go to www.fafsa.ed.gov, and then go to Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA.

Can monthly payments be arranged?
Many families prefer to make their college payments in smaller, more frequent installments, much as they do for their car and homes. Defiance College offers the DC Installment Payment Plan for those who wish to make eight (8) monthly installments for the year. There is a $60 non-refundable participation fee accessed to participate in the plan. Fees may also be paid in cash, money order, check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or financial aid and Stafford Loans.

About the DC Installment Payment Plan:

  • A student must complete the payment plan application and submit it to the Registration Center along with the signed billing statement and payment.
  • Student must pay all outstanding balances from the previous semester before they can participate in the Payment Plan.
  • Student cannot pay the following through the Plan: Library fines, bookstore charges, telephone charges, miscellaneous charges.
  • Coupons will be sent to participating students. However, it is the students' responsibility to know the payment due dates and to make payments on time.
  • If you withdraw from the College, you are still responsible for paying the remaining balance upon withdrawal, in accordance with the published refund policies as stated in the Defiance College Catalog.

Where do I pay my tuition bill?
Payment of tuition, room, and meal charges is made in the Registration Center in the Serrick Campus Center prior to each semester or summer session. Students will be billed in advance of the registration date for each term. Confirmed financial aid awards are subtracted from the bill, except for campus job earnings. Payment from campus employment comes directly to the employed student in monthly payroll checks.

Defiance College reserves the right to make changes and designate the effective date of changes in financial aid programs, policies and procedures as necessary.
