Financing Your Education

Financial Aid helps to cover educational expenses. It supplements what your family can afford. Defiance College awards financial aid to students who have earned a scholarship based on academic performance, or demonstrate need based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA can be submitted anytime after January 1. Both student and parent must apply for an individual PIN to complete the FAFSA online. The priority deadline to file your FAFSA is April 1. Apply early!

Important Points

• You must reapply for financial aid through the FAFSA application every year you expect to receive aid.
• You may not receive the same amount of need-based aid from year to year based on income and aid program requirements.
• Your aid may be reduced if you receive additional assistance once you have received your initial award.
• You will be awarded your maximum eligibility. Please contact the financial aid office if there is any part of the award you do not want or need.
  

Early Estimator
Many students have questions concerning their financial aid eligibility. Defiance College offers a free Financial Aid Early Estimator service. The Financial Aid Early Estimator service will help you receive answers now to many crucial financial aid-related questions. The Estimator will address whether you might be eligible for scholarships or other forms of financial aid. Participation is easy. Simply print the form and complete it as accurately as possible. (Contact the DC Financial Aid Office if you are unable to print the form.) The completed form can be mailed or faxed to our office. We will complete a confidential analysis of this basic income and asset information. Your estimated Expected Family Contribution will be calculated following the guidelines of the federal government.

Keep in mind that the Financial Aid Early Estimator is NOT a financial aid application. It is a tool designed to assist you in determining the total amount of financial assistance you may be eligible to receive. To apply for federal and state financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
