Grants

Grant Information
Grants are monetary gifts that do not have to be repaid. To apply for all of the following grants, see Apply for Financial Aid.

You will be notified through your Financial Aid Award Letter if you are eligible to receive any of the following grants.


Defiance College Grant
DC Grants are awarded to full-time students who demonstrate need. The grant amount varies depending on need as determined by the FAFSA.

Pell Grant
This is a federal grant with awards that range from $400 - $4,310 per year. It is awarded to full or part-time students based on need as determined by the FAFSA.

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
This is a federal grant awarded to full-time Pell eligible students with the lowest EFC as determined by the FAFSA. Amount varies up to $2,000.

Academic Competitiveness Grant
This is a federal grant awarded to first and second year full-time Pell eligible undergraduate students. Students must have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study and second year students must have at least a 3.0 GPA. The amount is $750 for first year students and $1,300 for second year students.

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant
(National Smart Grant)
This is a federal grant that is awarded to third and fourth year full-time Pell eligible undergraduate students. Students must be majoring in physical, life, or computer sciences; mathematics; technology; engineering; or certain designated foreign languages and have at least a 3.0 GPA. The award is $4,000.

Ohio Student Choice Grant
This grant is not need based. The annual award is determined each year by the state. It is awarded to Ohio residents pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, attending full-time, and who have not attended college prior to July 1984.

Ohio College Opportunity Grant
This grant is awarded to students who began their college career during or after the 2006-07 award year. The award amount is based on need as determined by the FAFSA up to $4,992.


Ohio Instructional Grant
This grant is awarded to students who began their college career before the 2006-07 award year. The award amount is based on income and family size up to $5,466.
