Defiance College is pleased to give you additional opportunities in your educational career through outside scholarships. The scholarships listed below are current and are updated regularly as we learn about new and exciting opportunities for our students. Applying for outside scholarships is encouraged!
Unless otherwise noted, for more information and applications, please come to the Financial Aid Office located in room 204 of the Serrick Center on campus.

Eligibility for Florence Allen Scholarships is as follows:
Traditional Student Applicants
- Women who will graduate or have graduated from an Ohio high school or who have
received a GED from the Ohio Board of Education prior to July 1, 2010.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Undergraduates who meet the above criteria and are enrolled as full-time students at an
accredited degree-granting institution recognized by a state Board of Regents.
Non-traditional Student Applicants
- Women who are residents of Ohio and are at least 30 years old as of April 1, 2010.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Undergraduates who meet the above criteria and are enrolled at an accredited degreegranting
institution recognized by a state Board of Regents.
Applicant need not be a full-time student.
Scholarship applications will be provided upon request via e-mail to allenendowment@gmail.com.
The completed application and all supporting documentation must be hand stamped
and postmarked on or before March 1, 2010. Scholarship recipients will be notified by certified letter no later than April 30, 2010.

To recognize outstanding forensic science students and to encourage students to pursue a career in the forensic science profession, the Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners (AFTE) has established a scholarship program.
Each year, a student from an accredited university in a forensic science focused degree program will be selected to receive a one thousand dollar ($1000.00) scholarship award. All the information, application, and recommendation forms needed to apply for this scholarship can be found at www.afte.org.
Please make this announcement available to students researching financial aid options. The application process is not difficult, but does require an official transcript and three letters of recommendation. If any students are interested in applying, they can visit www.afte.org and email the complete application and recommendation forms by the April 1, 2010 deadline to:

Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must be a fulltime college student with a major in broadcast journalism and should be African-American
- Open to students going into their sophomore, junior or senior year. Scholarship is one time only and cannot be renewed. (Scholarship is open to students nationwide)
- Applicant does not have to prove financial need
- Applicant must exemplify qualities demonstrated by JoAnne Robinson –hard working, detail oriented; must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and a dedication to excellence, personally and professionally
Required Documents:
- Submit academic records (transcripts)
- Submit a written statement describing personal background, goals, values and characteristics distinguishing the student, making him/her a candidate worthy of recognition
- Submit a statement from at least one college professor

The Sallie Mae Fund First in My Family Scholarship Program is dedicated to assisting students who are the first person in their family to attend college.
What is first in my family? Applicants are first in their family if they are the first of their siblings, parents and grandparents to pursue a bachelor's degree or the first to pursue an associate's degree.

The Zonta Club of Defiance is holding its fourth annual “The Sky is the Limit” scholarship event.
Thanks to area businesses and organizations, Zonta has been able to provide several thousand dollars in scholarships to young girls and adult women pursuing college degrees.
This year, there will be two different categories for competition; one for area high school juniors and seniors planning to attend college, and the other scholarship is a new event for Zonta Defiance Club. This award will be focused towards adult female students pursuing a post-secondary education.
