Work-study | For Students | For Supervisors | FAQ's | Job Listings
A part-time work-study job is one sure way to help out with the expenses of college. College supervisors realize students must be students first and that academic achievement is the first priority. They are very flexible in scheduling working hours and making accommodations for exams etc. Defiance College offers Federal Work-study and Regular Payroll employment to its students. During a regular academic year close to 500 students work in these programs.
Federal Work Study (FWS)
Federal Work Study is a federally-funded program which provides on-campus or community service employment to students with financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA. Students may work up to 20 hours a week to earn their Federal Work Study award, but usually will work an average of 8-10 hours a week. The Federal Work Study award amount will be reflected on a student’s award letter. The amount awarded to the student is the maximum that may be earned under the FWS program by the student during the academic year.
Regular Payroll (REG)
Campus Work Study Opportunities are available to students who do not qualify for the need-based Federal Work Study program. Interested students must apply and be approved by the DC Financial Aid Office to be eligible to work. Students apply by completing the "Request for Regular Payroll" form. The form is available to print on-line or is available in the Registration Center. The completed form must be submitted to the DC Financial Aid Office. Once the request is processed, students will be notified through their campus e-mail of their eligibility.
FWS/REG
Students may request and be approved for an increased award. The student must submit a "Request for Increase" form to the DC Financial Aid Office. Students will be notified via campus e-mail of decision. If an award increase is granted, students will receive a Revised Award Letter.
Preference for FWS or REG will be given to full time students.
Jobs for students in both FWS and REG will be posted, updated, and maintained on the Defiance College website. Students will be responsible to search for jobs, set up interviews, complete job applications, and secure a position. Students must complete the following forms before they will be permitted to work:
1. State Tax Form (State of Ohio Exemption Certificate)
2. Federal Tax Form (Federal W-4 Form)
3. Immigration Reform and Control Act Form (I-9)
4. Student Employment Contract
5. Work Authorization Contract (WAC)
For both FWS and REG, timecards must be turned in to DC Business Office by the date indicated on the timecard. Students are paid on the 7th of each month or by the date indicated on the timecard for actual hours worked. Checks can be picked up in the RC.
Community Service
Defiance College has strong ties to the surrounding community. A number of the off- and on-campus positions allow students to assist the greater Defiance community. See the McMaster Program web page for more information about DC's involvement in the community.
