Residence Halls
Defiance College is a residential campus, which means that learning takes place around the clock. The residence halls sponsor a number of educational activities, from informal seminars to late-night study sessions, and students get together on a more casual basis to talk about ideas, share a pizza, or explore the town and surrounding area. Living on campus provides opportunities to make new friends, meet and live with a diverse group of individuals, experience the feeling of community, and participate in the programming in the halls which supports the academic excellence of Defiance College.

Our on-campus residence hall options vary from traditional living units to apartment style suites. In the past, these residential facilities may have been referred to as dormitories. By definition a dormitory is a place for eating and sleeping only. A residence hall offers more extensive living facilities (e.g. lounges, game rooms, study areas, meeting areas, TV rooms and laundry facilities). Also, a residence hall operates with an educational and holistic philosophy that works to positively impacts students during their formative college experience. The on-campus residential communities of McReynolds, Whitney, Jacket Suites and Grand Avenue should be referred to as residence halls (halls for short), not dorms or dormitories.

This year one land line phone is required in each residence hall room. Students will be required to have working voicemail (provided by DC) with accurate voicemail that reflects the names of students living in the specific room. This is for safety and security for our campus.

These one-story quad style apartments are divided into three pods each containing four to five individual apartment units and a central lounge with big-screen television and laundry area. Within each apartment are two bedrooms, full kitchen, bathroom, and storage/study area.

Grand Avenue Apartments
Apartment-style living option for senior level students. Amenities include semi-private bath, full kitchen, living room, washer/dryer in apartment.

SECURITY
McReynolds Hall, Whitney Hall and the Jacket Suites remain locked 24 hours a day and 7days a week. Students will need to use their student ID to gain access to their individual residence halls. Professional security officers supplied by Securitas Security also complete campus rounds and remain at the front desks from 6pm until 6am daily. Each resident is provided an access card or key to enter their residence hall. It is important to note that security and safety of our students is compromised when visitors to the hall are given access without the appropriate supervision of a resident of that residence hall. Therefore, do not lend out your access card or key and report lost or stolen access cards or keys immediately. Follow this link for important information on protecting yourself while at college.

RESIDENTIAL DISCIPLINE
The Office of Residence Life works to foster an exchange of ideas while implementing student developmental and social programs to help students adjust to living on campus. Additionally, both the undergraduate and graduate staff living in the halls works directly with the Office of Residence Life to addresses student conduct concerns and issues negatively affecting the overall residential community. Proper administrative follow-up on behavioral conflicts are the responsibility of residence life staff. Staff members are trained to educate students on policies and encourage each student to take responsibility for their own actions and address issues when appropriate.
