Sophomore Career Check-ups
All sophomores will be invited to meet, discuss, and create a career plan for their next two years. Sophomores will receive an appointment for their check-up.

Internship Prep101: How to Succeed in Your Internship
Tuesday, January 17, 2017 • 11:00 am and 7:00 pm

This presentation prepares students to enter into an internship by reviewing various topics from office dress codes and etiquette to familiarizing yourself with the company/organization and doing your research before you arrive the first day. Also discusses how to get the most out of the experiential learning opportunity for your career readiness.

Senior Success and Networking Event

Serrick Campus Center • Registration is required

All seniors are cordially invited to celebrate the success of your senior year! The Senior Success and networking event has been arranged to assist seniors in finalizing details related to graduation such as ordering announcements, loan counseling, applying to graduate and a resume critique. Additionally, the Defiance Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their monthly "After Hours" networking event and this will be an opportunity to network with area professionals. Hors D’oeuvres and beverage will be served and business attire is required.

Job and Internship Search Strategies 101: Game Changing Strategies

This event aids students in how to conduct a successful job search and reviews key job search tools available to students, such as College Central, and Ohio Means Jobs.


CareerFest 2017- Sponsored by Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC)
Friday, February 3, 2017 • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Ohio Expo Center and State Fair, Cardinal Hall, Columbus, OH • Registration is required

CareerFest is one of Ohio's largest career fairs designed for students of ALL majors and this includes Freshman – Seniors! Students and alumni of OFIC member colleges and universities are admitted at no cost. The Office of Career Development will be providing transportation and lunch to all students wishing to attend. You are welcome to provide your own transportation, however, you will still need to register. Defiance College students in the past have received internships and jobs from this career fair.

Criminal Justice Night
Monday, February 6, 2017 • 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Serrick Campus Center

This informational fair is in its nineteenth year and features criminal justice professional from all over the State of Ohio and parts of Michigan.  This year’s presentation features Jacob Mulinix, Special Agent – Health Care Fraud Section and Brittany Mulinix, DNA Forensic Scientist from the Office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and are Defiance College Alumni. This event is for all criminal justice, digital forensic science, and forensic science majors. Co-sponsored by the Criminal Justice faculty and the Office of Career Development.

Resume Writing

This presentation assists students in creating a resume using the Optimal Resume tool and provides additional recommendations and tips for creating a successful resume.

Defiance College Etiquette Dinner

This dinner is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and Office of Career Development. You will learn to dine like a professional, develop confidence in navigating the place settings and discuss proper table topics. Area employers will be joining us so you can enhance your networking skills. Co-sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and Office of Career Development.

Criminal Justice Mock Interviews

This event is an opportunity for Criminal Justice majors to be interviewed by Criminal Justice professionals followed by a critique of the interview. Co-sponsored by the Criminal Justice faculty and the Office of Career Development.


Mock Interviews for Education Majors
Wednesday, March 1, 2017 • 4:00 pm  7:00 pm  
Serrick Hubbard Banquet Room

Education majors completing their internship will participate in mock interviews and dinner with education professionals. After the mock interview each intern will receive feedback from their interview. Dinner will be provided after the mock interview event as a well as an opportunity for the interns to continue networking with education professionals. Co-sponsored by the Education department and Office of Career Development.


2017 Education Expo
Wednesday, April 5, 2017 • 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
University of Findlay • Registration is required

This job fair is sponsored by the Career Centers of seven private universities/colleges in northwest Ohio. Education Expo provides an opportunity for teacher candidates to meet with recruiters from school districts around the country.  

Teacher Candidates
To participate in Education Expo, teacher candidates MUST: 

    1. be an alumna/us or a current student who will have graduated with a teacher licensure from one of the sponsoring universities/colleges at the bachelor, master or doctoral degree level 
    2. hold current education licensure by August 15, 2017
    3. be eligible to accept new employment for the beginning of the 2017-18 academic year
    4. have a resume approved by your college or university Career Center
