Originally from Hahnville, Louisiana, Tracy Hilaire serves as the new Assistant Director of Music Programs, Instructor of Music, and Director of Choral Activities at Defiance College. Hilaire directs the college choir, small vocal ensembles, and teaches applied voice and music history. Before arriving at Defiance College, Hilaire served as choir director at Luling Elementary in the St. Charles Parish Public school district, where he led the LES Chamber Choir and Voices of LES. The LES Chamber Choir toured throughout the New Orleans area during his tenure. Some of their achievements included Headlining at the New Orleans 2022 Gospel Fest and guest featuring on a commercial with Artistic Director Darren Dailey of the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus.

Hilaire received his Bachelor of Arts in Music with an (emphasis in Voice) from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS, under the leadership of Dr. Paxton Girtmon, Christopher Phillips, Casey Kirk, and Dr. Andrew Sauerwein. Hilaire received his Master of Arts in Teaching from Belhaven University with an added Mississippi (K-12) Music Certification. In the Spring of 2023, Hilaire will receive his second Master’s degree from William Carey University in Church Music Studies with an (emphasis in Choral Conducting) under the leadership of Dr. Brandon Hardin, Dr. Jessica McMillan, Dr. Joel Dunlap, and James Armstrong.

Hilaire has an extensive background in instrumental music and enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. He has a strong ability to connect with people and share his passion for music with the world. Hilaire is very passionate about making sure students have access to music across the globe. Aside from being choir director, Hilaire loves attending music conferences, symphony concerts, studying at the Frozine Francis Piano Studio, and playing trombone.
