Alesia Yakos-Brown '86
Alesia graduated from DC in 2018 with a B.S. in Social Work and Psychology. During her years at DC, she was involved with the Social Work Organization, Tau My Honor Society, Alpha Chi Honor Society, amd Alpha XI Delta Sorority. She was a TKE Little Sis, table statistician for Men's Basketball, academic tutor, and student assistant for Dr. Younger Scorer's. She earned the Psychology Honor and Merit Award. And, Alesia went on winter term trips to Biloxi and Arizona. Her favorite memories were the urban trips and winter terms within the Social Work Program.
Alesia is now an Associate Professor of Social Work at Defiance College. She coordinates the Night Without a Home and Pay it Forward Project. She was a McMaster Fellow to Panama and went on a McMaster exploratory trip to Nicaragua. She serves on the Anti-Racism Task Force and B.REALL President's Council. She also is on the DC and Defiance Community Diverse Leadership Learning Community. She received the 2002 Van Wert County Women of Achievement Award, Distinguished Faculty award of Defiance College in 2012-2013, and the Schauffler Legacy Award in Social Work in 2020. Alesia also obtained her Master's of Social Work from Clinical Practice of Family & Children Services, the Ohio State University (1990).
Alesia said Alumni/ae should support DC with their time, talents, and donations because "donations increase the financial security of the College. Time and expertise are essential to the development of our students. The sharing of alumni positions creates a network for our students to tap into for potential internships and future career opportunities."
