FACULTY POSITIONS

 

Assistant or Associate Professor of Environmental Science
 
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a qualified candidate for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Environmental Science at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The appointment will commence Fall 2025. This position is a 12-month appointment that includes directing Defiance College’s water quality testing lab and partnership with the City of Defiance, better known as Defiance Alliance. The laboratory boasts over $175,000 in facility updates and equipment purchases to assist in water quality research, and has been supported by a freshwater research technician since 2022. 

Teaching responsibilities include courses at the introductory level including environmental science and in the applicant’s area of expertise. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous experience teaching in higher education, with evidence of effectiveness at the introductory level; the desire to develop an undergraduate research program; and an ability to be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Additional duties of faculty include: advising, committee work and service to the campus and community as appropriate. 

A Ph.D. in environmental science, ecology, environmental biology, environmental chemistry or environmental geology with water quality research experience is required; advanced ABD will be considered. Appointment of rank commensurate with experience.

Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face-to-face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback. Applicants must hold a master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant field and professional or teaching experience is desirable.

Teacher Education Clinical Supervisors

The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

 

Assistant Men's Volleyball Coach 

Defiance College, an NAIA institution and member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), seeks applications for an Assistant Men’s Volleyball Coach. 

Under the direction of the Director of Volleyball, responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • In-Game coaching and practice planning
  • Recruiting student-athletes including identifying potential student-athletes, initial contacts, and coordinating visits
  • Fundraising assistance and camp direction
  • Monitoring strength & conditioning workouts
  • Assist in developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes
  • Team travel arrangements
  • Social media
  • Assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned
  • Assist in game management of other sports outside of playing season

The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, NAIA, and WHAC policies and procedures.

A bachelor’s degree, previous coaching experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with previous collegiate coaching experience who can demonstrate strong communication skills, successful recruiting experience, and the ability to lead and serve our student-athletes.

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Defiance College seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Defiance College, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) institution and member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in athletic health care management and medical coverage for NAIA sponsored intercollegiate athletic teams and events at Defiance College.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: coverage of athletic training room open treatment times, practices, games, and events, with travel opportunities available; assisting in daily ATR operations, including injury evaluation, emergency treatment, and rehabilitation; recordkeeping and documentation; work with local medical providers and team physicians to coordinate referrals for injuries; and providing counseling and education to student athletes.  As seen with many college positions as of late, we have moved to more of a "care" model opposed to "coverage", to better support staff size and realistic workloads for our athletic training staff.  

Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (master’s preferred), have current BOC certification, and be licensed by the State of Ohio through the Ohio OT/PT/AT Board. Previous athletic training experience in a higher education environment is preferred, but not required. While this is an entry level position, experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.  

This full-time, 12-month position will require work on weekends and holidays as needed. Head Women's Wrestling Coach

Defiance College, an NAIA institution and member of the WHAC located in Northwest Ohio, invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Wrestling Coach. The Defiance College Yellow Jackets will officially begin competition in the 2026-2027 academic year. 

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the individual will be responsible for the total operation of the women’s wrestling program. Responsibilities will include all duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate wrestling program including, but not limited to, recruiting, coaching, budget management, organization of training, practices and competitions, academic monitoring and other duties as assigned. Additional expectations of this position include mentoring of student-athletes and commitment to their academic progress and degree completion; knowledge of and commitment to all NAIA, WHAC, and institutional rules and regulations; game administration duties; and some departmental and campus committee work/involvement.   

Candidates must demonstrate significant knowledge of wrestling; proven success in coaching wrestling at the collegiate or high school level; the ability to recruit, develop and motivate student-athletes; and a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong leadership skills. A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and valid driver’s license are required.

Graduate Assistant – Baseball 

Defiance College, an NAIA institution and member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) located in Northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants for a graduate assistant baseball coaching position. Responsibilities include recruiting; field maintenance; assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring, practice organization, fund raising, scheduling and budget; and other administrative duties as assigned. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, have previous Collegiate baseball playing or coaching experience, possess a valid driver’s license, and have a clean driving record.

This is a two-year assistantship with a start date of August 1, 2025. The successful candidate must be accepted into the Defiance College graduate program in Education (MAE) or Business (MBA) and will be awarded a full graduate school tuition scholarship covering a maximum of 36 credit hours. Applicants pursuing a graduate degree in Education must hold a teaching license to be eligible for the Defiance College MAE program. Compensation includes a monthly stipend, college-provided housing, and a meal plan on campus when meals are served to students during the academic year.
