FACULTY POSITIONS

 

Assistant Professor of Environmental Science 

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a qualified candidate for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Environmental Science at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The appointment will commence Fall 2024 and appointment of rank will be commensurate with experience. This position is a 12-month appointment that includes directing Defiance College’s water quality testing lab and partnership with the City of Defiance under the Defiance Research Alliance.  The lab boasts over $175, 000 in facility updates and equipment purchases to assist in water quality research work, and has been supported by a lab technician since 2022.  For more information on the Defiance Research Alliance program, click here.

Teaching responsibilities include courses at the introductory level and in the applicant’s area of expertise. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous teaching experience in higher education with evidence of effectiveness at the introductory level; the desire to develop an undergraduate research program; and an ability to be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.  The position duties also include academic advising; assisting with program leadership and curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

A Ph.D. in environmental science, ecology, environmental biology, environmental chemistry or environmental geology with water quality research experience is required; advanced ABD will be considered.

Assistant Professor of Social Work/Field Coordinator

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time Assistant Professor of Social Work/Field Coordinator. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on a variety of Social Work courses including macro practice courses, courses within the social work program curriculum, and responsibility for all field education. Program responsibilities include participating in program events. Additional duties include academic advising; curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

The successful candidate must have two years of post-masters practice experience. For a tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate must have a doctoral degree.  For a non-tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor of Social Work, the candidate would need either three years of college teaching experience or three years of full-time experience in the field, and an M.S.W. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate (DSW or PhD) and with interests and experience in international social work.

Part-Time Studio Art Faculty

The Defiance College Art & Design program is seeking part-time instructors to teach Studio Art courses beginning in Fall 2023. Courses include foundational art classes such as 2D, 3D, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, and Jewelry. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback.

Teacher Education Clinical Supervisors

The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

 

Admissions Receptionist & Campus Visit Coordinator 

An immediate opening exists for a Receptionist & Campus Visit Coordinator for the Office of Admissions. The individual will serve as the first point of contact for prospective students and their families, welcoming and assisting all visitors in a friendly, pleasant, and helpful manner. The individual will also be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the campus visit program for prospective students as well as coordinating and administering all clerical and secretarial services for the Office of Admissions. Duties will include answering phones, greeting visitors, scheduling and coordinating campus visits, preparing visit packets/itineraries, data entry, preparing and distributing monthly visit reports, processing mail, etc. The individual will be expected to attend campus-hosted Admissions events, which may at times require evening and/or weekend hours.

The ideal candidate will have a warm, welcoming personality, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external constituents. Must have strong computer skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office, and be able to provide information in a professional manner. A high school diploma is required; an associate’s degree and prior office experience preferred.

Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach 

Defiance College seeks applications for an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. The Defiance College Yellow Jackets will officially join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on July 1, 2024 for competition in the 2024-25 academic year and will become full members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).

Under the direction of the Head Coach, responsibilities will include coaching, recruiting, fund raising, strength & conditioning, developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes, practice planning and preparation, scheduling, assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, NAIA, and WHAC policies and procedures.

A bachelor’s degree, previous collegiate coaching and recruiting experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong communication skills, successful recruiting experience, and the ability to lead and serve our student-athletes.

Administrative Assistant for Athletics 

Defiance College seeks an individual to provide primary administrative support to the Director of Athletics as well as support other athletic staff and coaches. Responsibilities include contract preparation, database maintenance, coordinating mailings and banquets, processing financial transactions, providing organizational and logistical support for events and activities, and other support tasks involved in the administration of the athletic department. The individual will also be responsible for coordinating all aspects of tickets sales for home football and basketball games.

The individual must be able to maintain thorough and accurate records; be proficient with MS Office and Google Drive; work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals; possess excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills; be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; and be willing to work a flexible schedule. Must be an energetic self-starter who can work well independently and as a member of a team.

This is a full-time, 11-month position which requires a High School diploma and previous office experience; an Associate’s degree and previous work experience in an athletic department is preferred. Campus Safety Officer

Defiance College seeks applications for Campus Safety Officer positions. Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety, Campus Safety Officers are responsible for the security and safety of the campus and enforcing all college rules and regulations. Duties include: patrolling campus buildings and grounds; responding to reports of security/safety violations, fire alarms, emergency situations, unusual occurrences, etc.; monitoring parking and issuing tickets for violations; completing daily security log; support the needs of the campus community by being available and responsive to safety/security concerns; etc.

Campus Safety Officers must be customer-service oriented, maintain a professional appearance, maintain a professional relationship with local law enforcement agencies, and be willing to adjust to a flexible work schedule which may include 2nd or 3rd shift and weekend duty. Candidates must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job and be able to handle difficult situations with professionalism and diplomacy.

A high school degree or equivalent is required and previous experience in law enforcement or security is desired. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age. Assistant Athletic Trainer

Defiance College seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Defiance College Yellow Jackets will officially join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on July 1, 2024 for competition in the 2024-25 academic year and will become full members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and currently sponsors 20 intercollegiate athletic teams. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in athletic health care management and medical coverage for NAIA sponsored intercollegiate athletic teams and events at Defiance College.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: coverage of practices, games, and events, with travel opportunities available; assisting in daily ATR operations, including injury evaluation, emergency treatment, and rehabilitation; recordkeeping and documentation; work with local medical providers and team physicians to coordinate referrals for injuries; and providing counseling and education to student athletes.

Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (master’s preferred), have current BOC certification, be licensed by the State of Ohio through the Ohio OT/PT/AT Board. Previous athletic training experience in a higher education environment is preferred, but not required. While this is an entry level position, experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.  

This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31) which will require work on weekends and holidays as needed. Defiance College Athletics and the current athletic training staff have taken steps to make this position competitive in the ever-changing landscape of collegiate athletics by concerning ourselves with workload, scheduled time off, and creating a work environment that is professionally stimulating, supportive, and conducive to having work-life balance.

Defiance College, located in Northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants for a men’s basketball graduate assistant coaching position. The Defiance College Yellow Jackets will officially join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on July 1, 2024 for competition in the 2024-25 academic year and will become full members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). The individual will serve as an assistant to the head coach and responsibilities will include recruiting, game preparation, practice organization, scheduling, assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other administrative duties as assigned. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, have previous basketball playing or coaching experience, possess a valid driver’s license, and have a clean driving record.

This is a two-year assistantship with a start date of August 1, 2024. The successful candidate must be accepted into the Defiance College graduate program in Education (MAE) or Business (MBA) and will be awarded a full graduate school tuition scholarship covering a maximum of 36 credit hours. Applicants pursuing a graduate degree in Education must hold a teaching license to be eligible for the Defiance College MAE program. Compensation includes a stipend, college-provided housing, and a meal plan on campus when meals are served to students during the academic year.
