April 11, 2013
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Area music lovers won’t want to miss the final concert of the Defiance
College Community Band’s 2012-13 season scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m.
in the Defiance Community Auditorium, downtown Defiance.
This musical group has thrilled audiences with rousing performances this season,
and directors Cathy Booth and Scott Rogers say the final performance promises to be
just as exciting. Booth and Rogers will lead the 85 musicians in an eclectic array
of titles all blended for an evening of superb musical entertainment titled “Boogie,
Bugs, Flowers, and a Flying Horse.” The concert will feature members of the band as
well as a few special guests.
The DCCB brass choir and percussion will kick-off the concert with a Viennese Fanfare
by Richard Strauss.
The newly appointed Defiance College director of bands, Bridget Leahy, joins the
DCCB on a “flying-arpeggiated” version of a “golden oldie” as the band welcomes and
features its newest music faculty member on the Golden Age of the Xylophone.
Wauseon native, educator, composer, french hornist, and guest conductor Tracy Behrman
will also be taking the podium to conduct his own composition and popular arrangement
of “Beyond the Horizon.” The concert is free and open to the public. The performance
will begin at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
