Alumni to 'Rendezvous' at Defiance College for Homecoming Oct. 10-12

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College celebrates homecoming activities Oct. 10-12 with the theme "Rendezvous at the Big DC." This year's New Orleans-style event includes a new format and activities.
The extended weekend starts Thursday with a 7 p.m. performance by the Boilermaker Jazz Band in partnership with the Schomburg Series and the Defiance Community Cultural Council (DCCC). The concert will be held in Schomburg Auditorium and is free for alumni, faculty, staff and current students.
Friday is a night of dinner and dancing beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Weaner Community Center with entertainment provided by the Toledo Symphony Jazz Quartet. At 7:15 p.m., awards will be handed out in several categories. Hall of Fame inductees include James D. Harris '92, Defiance; Brett Wingate '83, Tucson, Ariz.; Sheila (Retcher) McGill '94, Bryan; and Sarah Harman '03, Dayton. Alumni receiving the Coach of the Year award include Harold (Sonny) Lewis '70, Toledo; Martha Mallott '80, Defiance; Jim Linder '89, Paulding; and Brian Ziegler '96, Archbold. Also being recognized with awards are Loretta Bjorklund '89, West Palm Beach, Fla., who will receive the Alumni Achievement Award, and Merrie "Chris" Palmer '82, Defiance, and Carol "Sprite" Johnson '76, Maine, N.Y., receiving the Schauffler Legacy Awards.
Following the awards, a reception will be held in the Serrick Campus Center for Dr. Don Knueve, professor of criminal justice and associate academic dean. Friends and former students are invited to celebrate his pending retirement at the end of the 2013-14 school year.
Saturday will be a day of activity with events throughout the day including a baseball reunion "9 innings of Golf," Hall of Fame bricklaying ceremony, Yellow Jacket tailgating at the stadium, coronation of the homecoming king and queen, football game against Manchester and a "Meet the Coaches" event.
