Defiance College to hold Military Appreciation Day at Oct. 10 football game

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College will hold a Military and Veterans Appreciation Day on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the DC-Manchester football game. All area veterans are welcome and will be admitted to the game free with their military ID. Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Defiance College Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Defiance College will also be accepting care package donations for current U.S. troops stationed overseas. Items for the care packages will be collected at the stadium gates on Oct. 10. Donations can also be dropped off throughout the week of Oct. 5 in the athletic offices located in the Weaner Center on Webster Street.
Suggested donation ideas include: disposable cameras, beef jerky, sunflower seeds, playing cards, footballs, hacky-sac, soccer balls, granola bars, hand warmers, paper notepads, pens, icy hot patches, word puzzle books, chewing gum, toothbrushes, deodorant, lens cleaning cloths, baby wipes, sunscreen flavored water packets, chapstick, hats, board games, etc.
There will be stations available at the game for those who wish to write handwritten letters or test their military strength. Army and Marine recruiters and VFW representatives will be in attendance.
