Trick-or-Treat 5K led by Defiance College students on Oct. 24
October 9, 2015
DEFIANCE, Ohio – A Halloween-themed walk/run will be offered to the community by Defiance College students on Saturday, Oct. 24. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and can trick-or-treat to receive candy along the route.
The Trick-or-Treat 5K, one of many events for DC’s Homecoming week, will begin at 9 a.m. at the St. John United Church of Christ in Defiance. Morning registration will begin at 8 a.m. on the day of the event. Cost of the run/walk is $15 for community members and $8 for Defiance College students, faculty, and staff. Children ages 12 and under may participate for free. Candy offered to walkers and runners along the route will be provided by Project 701 and the office of Institutional Advancement at Defiance College. Candy donations are accepted.
All proceeds will go toward the Project 701 general fund. Project 701 is a unique, student-implemented non-profit organization that gives students a chance to positively impact the lives of those around them and to gain experience in their chosen career fields. Not only do students have the opportunity to volunteer with the various projects, they can also become managers of an individual project, join the staff or board that oversees Project 701 as a whole, or start up their own program. The organization gives students the opportunity to give back to Defiance College and the community in a meaningful way while providing them a chance to apply their academic knowledge to solve a real world problem.
In addition to signing up at the event, registration can be done by contacting Susanna Stoepfel, executive director of Project 701, at sstoepfel001@defiance.edu. Preregister by Tuesday, Oct. 13, to receive a free t-shirt. Participants who register after Oct. 13 are eligible to receive a t-shirt on a first come, first serve basis.
