Students represent Defiance College in intercollegiate honor band

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Five members from the Defiance College bands were represented at the 28th Ohio Private Colleges Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA) Intercollegiate Honor Band this past weekend at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. The performance was on Sunday at 1:30 pm at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center in Cambridge.
Selected from 17 Ohio private colleges and universities, more than 100 students participated in the honor concert and jazz bands.
Defiance College students accepted into the OPCICA Honor Band were Allison Behrendt (baritone saxophone) of North Olmstead, Mathan Grubmaer (trumpet) of Grand Rapids, Rebekah Groden (trumpet) of North Olmstead, Keira Grandey (clarinet) of Stryker, and Spencer Gray (trombone) of Grand Rapids. They were accompanied to Muskingum by DC Director of Bands Bridget Olenik, who served as a guest conductor for the concert band. Olenik conducted the concert finale piece “Shattering Infinity” by composer Benjamin Dean Taylor.
The students participated in rehearsals on Saturday and Sunday, culminating with a concert on Sunday afternoon.
