Invitation to shoot hoops and support autism awareness

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Shoot hoops to promote autism awareness on Saturday, April 16, at 5 p.m. The event will take place in the McMaster gymnasium inside the Karl H. Weaner Center on the Defiance College campus.

DC’s chapter of Alpha Xi Delta will host a 5 VS 5 single-elimination basketball tournament to support autism awareness through competitive sport. Cost is $8 for a team of five to participate; a team of six players costs $10 to enter. The event will take place from 5 p.m. until a champion is declared.

Members of the community are invited to participate or come watch the game. There will be a 50/50 raffle and prizes to the winners. All proceeds go to Autism Speaks.

Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, who sought help and understanding for their autistic grandchild. Autism Speaks is the world’s leading organization supporting and funding autism research, prevention, and treatments. The organization advocates for needs of individuals with autism and their families, as well as promotes awareness of autism spectrum disorders. More information may be found at www.autismspeaks.org.
