Metalwork artist to be featured in Defiance College art gallery
August 30, 2016
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College’s Women’s Commission Art Gallery will soon present “Wishful Thinking,” featuring the work of artist Wade Buck. The exhibition will run Sept. 2 through Dec. 1.
An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Friday, Sept. 2, from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. During this time, Buck will answer questions about his work. Light food and refreshments will be served.
Buck is a Michigan-based artist who has been working within the metal art field for more than ten years. He received his bachelor of fine arts from Northern Michigan University, and served as an apprentice artist under Gordon Gearhart, where he took on various architectural commissions of his own.
In 2016, Buck received his master of fine arts from Eastern Michigan University, and is currently installing a blacksmithing and jewelry program at a local maker space. In the studio, Buck continues to experiment with raised copper hollowware, traditional ironwork, and jewelry techniques for new sculptural forms and an investigation in materiality.
Recently, his art has explored the interrelationships and intentions between makers and their materials. The insightful work of “Wishful Thinking” uses forged objects to represent the struggles and exertions which go into attempting to fulfill desire.
The Women’s Commission Art Gallery is located on the DC campus in Dana Hall, Sessions Street. The gallery is open during business hours, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please enter using the interior door, accessible through Dana Hall or the Art Center.
