Defiance College receives national recognition for community service, engagement

DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College has again received national recognition for its leadership in community service and engagement with its inclusion in the 2015 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This is the ninth consecutive year that Defiance College has been honored.
The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support exemplary community service programs and raise the visibility of effective practices in campus community partnerships.
The Corporation for National and Community Service has administered the award since 2006 in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the American Council on Education, Campus Compact, and the Interfaith Youth Core.
"We are honored that Defiance College has again been recognized on a national level for our commitment to service," said DC president Dr. Richanne C. Mankey. "Part of our mission as a private, liberal arts institution is to prepare responsible citizens. This honor reinforces the value of Defiance’s model of service learning and engagement, and we are immensely proud of our students and the outreach that they perform in communities here at home and around the world. We know that lives have been improved through their efforts to identify pressing needs and get involved."
Defiance College students, led by faculty and staff, perform thousands of hours of community service each year through numerous initiatives including Project 701, the college’s student-run nonprofit; Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Empty Bowls event to benefit the PATH Center, Children’s Miracle Network, youth mentoring and tutoring, to name a few. Also, the college’s McMaster School for Advancing Humanity has ongoing projects in Cambodia, Belize, and Panama.
