Landscape - A Photography Exhibit by John Walz to be shown at DC
March 2, 2023
DEFIANCE, Ohio --
Landscape - A Photography Exhibit by John Walz is on display in the DC Women's Commission Art Gallery from March 1 to March 29, 2023. There will be a gallery talk feating the artist, Jon Walz, on March 9 at 11:30 a.m. The exhibit and gallery talk is free and open to the public.
The exhibit focuses on a body of landscape photography by Walz. Walz generally shot film up to 2017, when the Treat Gallery in NY selected him to take over their Instagram page for a week. They commissioned Walz to post one picture a day, captured that day, that would give a sense of where he was from. For that project, Walz shot digitally and has continued shooting mostly digital ever since. In terms of inspiration and process, Walz states "While I do look at photographers like Joel Meyerowitz and Stephen Shore, this work is more inspired by looking at painters like Edward Hopper, Mark Rothko, and Richard Diebenkorn. My methodology is to keep a camera bag with me and try to leave early for whatever appointments I have so that I can stop and make pictures on the way."
John Walz is a photographer and digital artist living in Northwest Ohio. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Walz spent several years as a photojournalist before becoming an educator. To date, he has over 20 years of higher education teaching experience and is currently an adjunct art and photography instructor at Defiance College and Owens Community College.
Walz has been featured in several galleries throughout the United States, including River House Arts in Toledo, Ohio, The Paint Creek Center for The Arts in Rochester, Michigan, The Rayko Photo Center in San Francisco, California, and the Treat Gallery in New York, New York. Additionally, his art has been included in numerous art magazines and journals, including Juxtapoz, New Landscape Photography, Poets and Artists, and Sleepy Orange. Walz is also the owner of John Walz Photo.
