Safety and Security

Your success as a college student requires that you live and learn in a safe and secure environment. Throughout your time at DC, we will communicate personal safety practices through discussions, drills, speakers, and announcements.

The McReynolds Hall, Whitney Hall and the Jacket Suites entrance doors remain locked 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so students will need to use their student ID to gain access to their individual residence hall. Students’ rooms should be kept locked at all items when the room is left unoccupied. Evening and overnight hour security rounds are performed by professional security officers provided by Continental Security. The security staff is accessible to students via the security headquarters in the McCann Center from 3 pm until 7 am daily. Security can be contacted at 419-783-2625 during office hours.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

Defiance College has an emergency notification system which utilizes email, cell phone, land phone, and texting to notify members of the college community about weather delays, closings, and other campus emergencies.

RESIDENTIAL DISCIPLINE

The Office of Residence Life works to foster an exchange of ideas while implementing student developmental and social programs to help students adjust to living on campus. Additionally, both the undergraduate and graduate staff living in the halls works directly with the Office of Student Life to addresses student conduct concerns and issues negatively affecting the overall residential community. Proper administrative follow-up on behavioral conflicts are the responsibility of residence life staff. Staff members are trained to educate students on policies and encourage each student to take responsibility for their own actions and address issues when appropriate.
