The Charles K. and Esther C. Krieger Visiting Scholars Program at Defiance College invites applications for a visiting scholar in religious studies for spring 2021 through spring 2023 with a January 2021 start. The visiting scholar will teach three courses per semester in religious studies, including courses in the scholar's area of interest, and the first year seminar "World Issues." The visiting scholar will also coordinate a series on interfaith dialogue and understanding, and engage in research benefitting students and society. The visiting scholar also submits an annual report of activities due to the foundation.

The position provides an annual stipend of $44,000 with room and board, plus health benefits. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in religion or religious studies or other relevant field with an emphasis in the Abrahamic traditions of Christianity or Islam. An advanced ABD candidate will also be considered. The first Krieger scholar was an expert in Judaism, and it is the wishes of the foundation that this position rotate over time to fulfill the vision of interfaith dialogue and understanding.

Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face-to-face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback.  Applicants must hold a master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in relevant field and professional or teaching experience desirable. 

Defiance College is seeking to build an applicant pool for anticipated instructional needs in applied music lessons for:

Woodwinds: flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone
Brass: trumpet, french horn, baritone, trombone, tuba
Strings: violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar

Instructors provide 14 lessons and a performance assessment per semester. Instructors will have the potential to build private studios and work with ensembles. The Music Program seeks candidates with an interest in working with students of all skill levels, as well as energy and drive to contribute to growing a small program. Candidates must hold a master's degree in music education, music performance, or other related field. The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. Defiance College invites applications for the position of admissions counselor. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the admissions counselor will be responsible for recruiting students in an assigned geographic territory and coordinating and participating in other admission-related events and activities. Responsibilities will include interviewing and counseling prospective students and parents regarding educational and financial aid opportunities and providing prospective student follow-up.

Depending on experience, the admissions counselor may also work with our non-traditional online recruitment efforts.  An abundance of personal initiative, strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment is essential.

This position requires a bachelor's degree (master's preferred), a valid driver’s license, and some travel and evening/weekend work. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in recruitment, marketing, or related field. Defiance College seeks an individual to assist in the maintenance and repair of campus facilities and equipment, with primary emphasis on carpentry and painting. Applicants should also have some experience and knowledge of plumbing, electrical, renovations and grounds keeping and will also assist with maintenance troubleshooting and repair of various types of equipment. Must be proficient in the operation of many types of equipment, possess a valid, and hold an unrestricted driver's license. Tools required. This position is a vital service function to the College so the selected individual must be able to complete work assignments and perform duties in a reliable, dependable, and timely manner.
