FACULTY POSITIONS


ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a qualified candidate to fill a full-time tenure-track faculty position in a newly created major in Environmental Science. The appointment will commence Fall 2020.

Teaching responsibilities include courses at the introductory level and in the applicant’s area of expertise. Candidates that can teach GIS and/or remote sensing, have an agricultural science and/or an ability to teach science courses for non-majors are desirable. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous teaching experience in higher education with evidence of effectiveness at the introductory level; the desire to develop an undergraduate research program; and an ability to be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. It is strongly desired that applicants have familiarity with new technology, a willingness to incorporate technology into the classroom and laboratory, and be open to teaching strategies that enhance student success.  A Ph.D. in environmental science, ecology, environmental biology, environmental chemistry or environmental geology with GIS and/or remote sensing is required; advanced ABD will be considered.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology. Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load, student advising, committee work, and continuing professional development. Applicants should be committed to mentoring undergraduate research and have a plan for including undergraduates in their research initiatives.

The successful candidate should have completed a PhD or PsyD program; ABD will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in the areas of Cognitive, Clinical, or Experimental Psychology. Candidates must be willing to teach across subfields in a variety of courses, such as Introductory Psychology, Memory and Cognition, Research Methods, Neuroscience, Abnormal Psychology, Clinical/Counseling Psychology, and selected topics courses in their area of expertise.

Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load that focuses on a variety of courses that include introductory and advanced courses. Required specialization is finance and economics. Supervision of internships is expected. Defiance College is accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education.

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in a field pertinent to Business; advanced ABD will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong teaching record, innovative ideas for course development and pedagogy, and a willingness to help students apply their work both inside and outside the classroom in creative ways. Professional experience in the field of finance or economics is desirable.

The successful candidate should have completed a master's degree in either Accounting or Business. Doctorate in Accounting or Business preferred. A CPA licensure is required. ABD will be considered. Professional experience in the field of accounting is desirable.

INSTRUCTORS FOR APPLIED MUSIC LESSONS
Defiance College is seeking to build an applicant pool for anticipated instructional needs in applied music lessons for:

Woodwinds: flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone
Brass: trumpet, french horn, baritone, trombone, tuba
Strings: violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar

Instructors provide 14 lessons and a performance assessment per semester. Instructors will have the potential to build private studios and work with ensembles. The Music Program seeks candidates with an interest in working with students of all skill levels, as well as energy and drive to contribute to growing a small program. Candidates must hold a master's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or other related field. TEACHER EDUCATION CLINICAL SUPERVISORS
The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time Clinical Supervisors for Teacher Education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the Fall and Spring semesters. Our Licensure areas include Early and Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult (core content areas), and Intervention Specialist Mild-to-Moderate (K-12). Clinical Supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in Education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS


MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Defiance College seeks an individual to assist in the maintenance and repair of campus facilities and equipment, with emphasis on plumbing, electrical, renovations and grounds. Must have previous experience in maintenance troubleshooting and repair of various types of equipment, be proficient in the operation of many types of mobile equipment, and possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license. DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS
Defiance College has an immediate opening for a Director of Admissions to lead all aspects of the undergraduate and graduate admissions office. Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director is an integral part of the Enrollment Management team.

The Director of Admission leads a team of professionals who ensure a positive applicant experience and maintains the integrity of our college admissions process. The Director oversees the entire admissions process from the time students inquire and apply through matriculation, which includes assisting in the development of admissions policy and process for existing and new programs for all undergraduate, graduate, non-matriculated, readmission applicants, and participants to special programs. Experience in a data-driven and goal-oriented office is important.

Qualified candidates must hold a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and the ideal candidate will have five years of progressively responsible experience in university undergraduate and graduate admissions. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; a high level of technological proficiency; familiarity with automated information systems; and the ability to respond professionally in sensitive situations. Prior experience with online graduate programs and completion programs is highly desirable.

DIRECTOR OF eSPORTS AND HEAD COACH
Defiance College seeks qualified applicants for a Director of eSports & Head Coach. The individual will be responsible for the total operation of the eSports program including, but not limited to: recruiting, retention, managing the team, budget management, scheduling, fund raising, equipment control and monitoring of the eSports gaming room, game/practice management, player strategy development, development of a service learning/engagement project for student-athletes, academic monitoring, developing and mentoring appropriate staffing models for assistant coach(es), and other duties normally associated with being the Director of eSports & Head Coach or as assigned. Additional expectations of this position may include game administration duties, and some departmental and campus committee work/involvement.

This position requires a bachelor's degree (master's preferred). Applicants shall demonstrate competence and effectiveness in:

  • Knowledge of eSports industry
  • Competitive eSports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and experience in at least one of the following games: League of Legends, Overwatch, and Hearthstone
  • Recruiting students that can be successful academically, socially, and as members of the eSports program
  • Knowledge of and commitment to all institutional and eSports governing bodies rules and regulations including, but not limited to NACE philosophy, eligibility, sport playing season, etc.
  • Leadership and professionalism in managing a program with multiple constituencies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Defiance College seeks a seasoned administrative professional to provide support to the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Academic Dean (VPAA) providing a wide range of multifaceted and confidential duties involved in the academic administration of the college.

The individual is the first point of contact for the Office of Academic Affairs and must possess excellent communication skills, display a high level of professionalism, and be able to use tact and diplomacy. Responsibilities include: track faculty teaching loads; maintain the VPAA's calendar and manage the office budget; provide support for instructional staffing, academic assessment, student probation and suspension activities; manage, track, and analyze various academic data; prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents; arrange and organize meetings; arrange travel; oversee and coordinate activities for special events such as Convocation and Commencement; take and transcribe minutes for faculty and Board of Trustee meetings; and other duties for efficient operation of the Office of Academic Affairs.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter and possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of administrative, technology, and office procedures; be able to work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals; possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Preferred applicants will have completed some college coursework (bachelor's degree preferred). All candidates must have significant administrative and/or secretarial employment experience.
