FACULTY POSITIONS

Assistant Professor of Design

Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Design. Defiance College is a liberal arts institution in Northwest Ohio that features small classes that help students thrive. While Defiance, Ohio offers small-town charms, the college is also less than an hour away from the vibrant cities of Toledo and Fort Wayne, Indiana.  The Graphic Design program is well-established with many students majoring and minoring in it. Students in the Design program at Defiance College study to broaden their skills and gain exposure to the expanding landscape of art and design.

Duties include a 4/4 teaching load involving graphic design (print and web formats), digital photography, and foundation courses in 2D and 3D design. Responsibilities will also include academic advising, curriculum development, program equipment maintenance, and involvement in committee and college service.

The successful candidate must have an MFA or other terminal degree in Graphic Design, Package Design, Photography, or other relevant area.  Rank and appointment based on degree and experience.  College teaching experience, including the ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses, and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is required. Additional desirable candidate attributes include: a demonstrated record of creative work; expertise in digital photography, with an emphasis on portfolio preparation and product photography; experience designing creative packaging for consumer goods; and understanding of materials and manufacturing processes in package design.

Assistant Professor of Sport Management

Defiance College is currently in search of a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to instruct undergraduate Sport Management courses on campus, with the potential for teaching online graduate courses (MBA) starting in August 2024. Sport Management stands as one of the largest programs at Defiance College, housed within the Division of Business, Education, and Social Work. Individuals possessing expertise in Sport Management are strongly encouraged to apply.

The sport management program features a career-oriented curriculum that prepares students for various professions in sports and recreation industries. The program balances classroom knowledge and theory with practical opportunities, allowing students to gain an upper hand in their education. Focus in the program is on internships, field experiences, and research. DC has amazing athletic facilities and students earn valuable experience working closely with athletic staff on events. Sport Management is among the largest majors on campus and students leave DC with experiential knowledge that readies them for the sport industry.

The required teaching load is 4-4 (24 credits per academic year) and the position duties include teaching courses in the Sport Management program and other related courses at the undergraduate/graduate level. Areas may include Introduction to Sport Management, Event and Facility Management, Sport Law, Sport Marketing, Sport Leadership, and/or other areas to help propel students successfully into the sport industry. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate students; cultivating and developing external relationships that facilitate opportunities for guest speaking, internships, post graduate work, and scholarships; participating in professional associations that correlate with Sport Management; engaging in scholarship and community service; and serving on departmental & institutional committees. College level service is required appropriate to academic rank.

A Ph.D. in Sport Administration or a related field is required; advanced ABD will be considered. Applicants must be willing to participate in administrative duties, including work on campus committees, working with sport management student and alumni clubs, student advising, and other duties as assigned. Preferred candidates will have extensive teaching experience, experience working with undergraduate students, and possess practical knowledge in the sports industry.

Assistant Professor of Social Work/Field Coordinator

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time Assistant Professor of Social Work/Field Coordinator. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on a variety of Social Work courses including macro practice courses, courses within the social work program curriculum, and responsibility for all field education. Program responsibilities include participating in program events. Additional duties include academic advising; curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

The successful candidate must have two years of post-masters practice experience. For a tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate must have a doctoral degree.  For a non-tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor of Social Work, the candidate would need either three years of college teaching experience or three years of full-time experience in the field, and an M.S.W. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate (DSW or PhD) and with interests and experience in international social work.

The preferred candidate will have a doctoral degree in criminal justice or a related major. Candidates in the advanced stages of ABD will also be considered, as well as those holding a JD. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the criminal justice system, knowledge of contemporary issues in criminal justice, and a desire to proactively collaborate with community partners in the field.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry. We are looking for a passionate and committed teacher-scholar that can easily move between introductory and upper-division chemistry courses. Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load focused on a variety of courses that include General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Quantitative Analysis, among others within the applicant’s area of expertise. Computer Science/Cybersecurity Faculty Position 

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time faculty member in cybersecurity. This major will complement and expand the existing Cyber-Forensic and Computer Science programs. Responsibilities for this position include a 24-credit per year teaching load; academic advising; committee work; and service to the college and the wider community. A successful candidate will bring experience in the field of cybersecurity and a collaborative spirit as the position involves significant teamwork in the partner programs.

Preferred candidates will have a Master’s degree or higher in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Cyber-Forensics, or related field.  Rank and tenure track consideration is commensurate with education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant practical real-world experience with cybersecurity, information assurance, and incident response, coupled with higher education teaching experience.

Part-Time Studio Art Faculty

The Defiance College Art & Design program is seeking part-time instructors to teach Studio Art courses beginning in Fall 2023. Courses include foundational art classes such as 2D, 3D, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, and Jewelry. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback.

Teacher Education Clinical Supervisors

The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

 

Director of Campus Safety

Defiance College has an immediate opening for a Director of Campus Safety. Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs/Coordinator of Compliance, the Director of Campus Safety provides strategic and operational leadership for the security and safety of a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This is a full-time, unarmed position.

The Director works in close collaboration with the campus community and to establish and maintain a safe and secure environment. Responsibilities include developing policies, procedures, and training programs aimed at minimizing losses and crime; providing campus security presence; and working in partnership with external law enforcement and public safety organizations that are responsible for emergency response on campus. The Director is also responsible for administering the processes for campus building card access, vehicle registration, and parking regulations and violations. The Director must be knowledgeable of and assure compliance with laws and regulations affecting campus public safety in a higher education environment.

A bachelor’s degree, experience in law enforcement and/or emergency response, and a valid driver’s license are required. Preferred candidates will hold a master’s degree and be certified in CPR, AED, and basic first aid. Accessibility Services Coordinator/Counseling Center Staff Clinician

Defiance College is currently seeking an Accessibility Services Coordinator & Counseling Center Staff Clinician. This individual will coordinate all aspects of student accessibility services, ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws to provide access and accommodation for students with disabilities. The individual will also serve as a clinician in the Student Counseling Center.

Accessibility Services responsibilities include: develop and implement policies and programs designed to enhance student accessibility services; perform intake assessments; identify reasonable accommodations; assess and facilitate the implementation of accommodations; and educational outreach. Clinician responsibilities include: provide individual and group counseling; assist with crisis response (which may require evening and weekend response); conduct mental health and wellness outreach programs; and provide training and consultation on college student mental health.

The successful candidate for this full-time 12-month position must possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and be familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. A Master’s degree in Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation, Special Education, College Student Personnel, or another related field is required. Head Men’s Wrestling Coach

Defiance College invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Wrestling Coach. The Defiance College Yellow Jackets will officially join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on July 1, 2024 for competition in the 2024-25 academic year and will become full members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). 

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the individual will be responsible for the total operation of the wrestling program. Responsibilities will include all duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate wrestling program including, but not limited to, recruiting, coaching, budget management, organization of training, practices and competitions, academic monitoring and other duties as assigned. Additional expectations of this position include mentoring of student-athletes and commitment to their academic progress and degree completion; knowledge of and commitment to all NAIA, WHAC, and institutional rules and regulations; game administration duties; and some departmental and campus committee work/involvement. 

Candidates must demonstrate significant knowledge of wrestling; proven success in coaching wrestling at the collegiate or high school level; the ability to recruit, develop and motivate student-athletes; and a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong leadership skills. A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and valid driver’s license are required.

Defiance College seeks qualified applicants to serve as Head Men’s Soccer Coach. Additional expectations of this position include mentoring of student-athletes and commitment to their academic progress and degree completion; knowledge of and commitment to all NAIA, WHAC, and institutional rules and regulations; game administration duties; and some departmental and campus committee work/involvement. 

This position requires a bachelor’s degree (masters preferred) and a valid driver’s license. Applicants should possess a strong soccer coaching background with demonstrated success as an energetic recruiter and positive role model for student athletes. Preference will be given to candidates that possess USC/USS coaching licensure and have previous collegiate soccer coaching, playing and recruiting experience.

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Defiance College seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Defiance College Yellow Jackets will officially join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on July 1, 2024 for competition in the 2024-25 academic year and will become full members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and currently sponsors 20 intercollegiate athletic teams. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in athletic health care management and medical coverage for NAIA sponsored intercollegiate athletic teams and events at Defiance College.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: coverage of practices, games, and events, with travel opportunities available; assisting in daily ATR operations, including injury evaluation, emergency treatment, and rehabilitation; recordkeeping and documentation; work with local medical providers and team physicians to coordinate referrals for injuries; and providing counseling and education to student athletes.

Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (master’s preferred), have current BOC certification, be licensed by the State of Ohio through the Ohio OT/PT/AT Board. Previous athletic training experience in a higher education environment is preferred, but not required. While this is an entry level position, experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.  

This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31) which will require work on weekends and holidays as needed. Director of eSports

Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution making its transition to NAIA in Fall 2024, located in Northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants for a Director of eSports. The individual will be responsible for the total operation of the eSports program including, but not limited to: recruiting, retention, managing the team, budget management, scheduling, fund raising, equipment control and monitoring of the eSports gaming room (arena), game/practice management, player strategy development, development of a service learning/engagement project for student-athletes, academic monitoring, developing staffing models for assistant coach(es) and mentoring appropriately. Additional expectations of this position may include game administration duties, and some departmental/campus committee work/involvement.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred). Applicants shall demonstrate competence and effectiveness in: 

  • Knowledge of eSports industry
  • Competitive eSports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and experience in at least one of the following games: League of Legends, Overwatch, and Fortnite
  • Recruiting students that can be successful academically, socially, and as members of an eSports program
  • Knowledge of and commitment to all institutional and eSports governing bodies rules and regulations including, but not limited to NACE philosophy, eligibility, sport playing season, etc.
  • Leadership and professionalism in managing a program with multiple constituencies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
