FACULTY POSITIONS

 

Assistant Professor of Nursing and Director of Nursing Program

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time Assistant Professor of Nursing and Director of the Nursing Program. The individual will coordinate the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program and the 1+2+1 Nursing Program (in cooperation with Northwest State Community College). Using up-to-date teaching strategies that focus on student engagement, service learning, and self reflection, the individual will teach and advise students. Additional responsibilities will include recruiting students into the nursing program and assisting with continued program course development, accreditation, committee work, and service to the college.

The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in Nursing, and unencumbered Ohio RN license (or eligibility for Ohio licensure), and at least 3-5 years’ experience as a practicing registered nurse. For a non-tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice, the candidate would need either three years of college teaching experience or three years of full-time experience in the field, and would not need a doctoral degree. For a tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate must have a doctoral degree (rank is Instructor for ABD and less than three years of college teaching experience). Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience in higher education.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of Chemistry. Responsibilities include a 24-credit teaching load involving general chemistry, forensic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and non-major’s science course; academic advising; curriculum development; instrument maintenance; committee work; and service to the college. The candidate will have the responsibility of overseeing the forensic science program.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or be ABD. Rank is Assistant Professor for a completed doctorate and Instructor for ABD and less than three years of college teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral or industrial experience.

Assistant or Associate Professor of Business

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Business. We are at an exciting crossroads and searching for a dynamic and innovative individual to contribute to a redesigned undergraduate and graduate program in Business.

Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load involving undergraduate and graduate courses in business administration and management; academic advising; curriculum development; accreditation compliance; committee work; and service to the college.

The successful candidate must be ABD or have a completed doctorate in business (PhD or DBA) or related field. For the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, the candidate must have a completed doctorate; rank is Instructor for ABD and less than three years of college teaching experience. PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS


Teacher Education Field Supervisors

The Defiance College Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors to supervise and observe teacher education students participating in field experiences. Areas of need: Early Childhood Education Pre-K to Grade 3, Language Arts Grades 7-12, and Intervention Specialist Grades K-12.

These part-time opportunities require site visits during normal school hours and may include attendance at on-campus meetings/training sessions which are typically held on Wednesday evening and/or Saturday.

Requirements include a master’s degree in education and teaching experience in a K-12 educational environment; current teaching licensure is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

 

Assistant Football Coach/Defensive Coordinator

Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the HCAC, seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Football Coach/Defensive Coordinator. The selected individual will coordinate all phases of the defense, including scouting, personnel assessment, staff management, and weekly game and practice planning. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong communication skills, passion for the personal development of the student-athlete, and an excellent Division III recruiting background.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, Heartland Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures.Bachelor’s Degree required. This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31) but with a start date of July 1 this first year.

HEAD MEN’S SOCCER COACH

Defiance College seeks qualified applicants to serve as Head Men’s Soccer Coach. Applicants should possess a strong coaching background as a soccer coach with demonstrated success as an energetic recruiter and positive role model for student athletes. The individual will be responsible for the total operation of the men’s soccer program under the direction of the athletic director. Soccer duties include recruiting, game preparation, practice organization, scheduling, fund-raising, budget preparation and management, student-athlete mentoring, development of a service learning/engagement project for student-athletes, evaluation and supervision of graduate assistant or assistant coaches, and other duties normally associated with being the head coach. Additional expectations of this position include knowledge of and commitment to all NCAA, HCAC, and institutional rules and regulations, game administration duties, and some departmental and campus committee work/involvement.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree (masters preferred) and a valid driver’s license. Preferred candidates will have previous collegiate soccer coaching, playing and recruiting experience. This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31) but with an immediate start date for this first year. Defiance College seeks an Accessibility Services Coordinator to coordinate all aspects of student accessibility services, ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws to provide access and accommodation for students with disabilities. Academic Support Coordinator

Defiance College seeks an individual to serve as an Academic Support Coordinator. The individual will report to the Director of Student Academic Support Services and will assist with programs designed to increase the academic success of students at Defiance College. Responsibilities will include: advising conditionally admitted and other academically at-risk students, assisting with the Success@DC early alert system, coordinating the First Year Peer Leader program, leading and developing SASS Success Workshops, and assisting with the delivery of other Student Academic Support Services programming as needed. Student Support Manager – ASD Affinity Program

for College-Age Students with Autism

Defiance College is seeking an individual to serve as a Student Support Manager for Defiance College’s ASD Affinity Program, which enrolls college-age students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Responsibilities include collecting data on students’ social and residential performance (data on academic performance may also need to be collected on a case-by-case basis); promoting skill generalization and instructional intervention to teach appropriate social and independent living skills; providing assistance in the selection, training, and assignment of peer mentors; and communicating with the program coordinator regarding student performance and progress.

This is a full-time, 10-month administrative appointment (August – May each year) with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2015. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree, preferably in social work, rehabilitation, or a related field. Desirable qualifications include experience with individuals with autism spectrum disorder and experience in supervisory or case management roles.

Graduate Assistant – Career Development

Defiance College seeks an individual to serve as Graduate Assistant for the Office of Career Development within Student Life. The Office of Career Development assists students and alumni in identifying personal strengths and interests, exploring major and career options and progressing toward graduate school and/or career goals. The Graduate Assistant will work alongside the Career Development Staff and will support the goals and mission of the Office of Career Development. Major duties will include marketing career development programs and resources, designing and developing marketing material, participating in workshops and programs coordinated by career development, and mentoring students in the development of professional communication skills, such as resume and cover letter preparation, social media profiles, and interviewing skills.

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and understand standards of professional etiquette in the job search process. Strong organizational, recordkeeping, and customer service skills are required.

Defiance College seeks an individual to serve as Graduate Assistant for Intramurals within the Office of Student Life. Reporting to the Director of Student Activities & Leadership, the individual will be responsible for coordinating the day-to day operations of a comprehensive intramural sports program which supports and encourages the concept of student leadership and development. The individual will support the activities and events of the Office of Student Activities & Leadership Duties with primary duties and responsibilities that include: coordinating and scheduling all intramural sports activities, events, and tournaments; hiring, training, and scheduling of officials and other student workers; policy development and enforcement; facility reservations; program promotion; participant registration; inventory and requisition of equipment and supplies; and program assessment.

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, have knowledge of and/or have participated in a wide variety of sports and recreational activities, and demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills; previous intramural participation, officiating, and/or tournament experience as well as familiarity with IMLeagues or other intramural scheduling software desirable.
