FACULTY POSITIONS


ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SCIENCE/STEM
The Teacher Education Department at Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track K-12 Science/STEM faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load. This position also supervision of teacher candidates, academic advising, committee work, and service to the college.

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in K-12 Science or STEM Education and science teaching experience in the K-12 environment or higher education setting. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong teaching record, experience supervising teacher candidates, and a demonstrated commitment to expanding STEM education.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BUSINESS
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors of Business. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on a variety of courses that include introductory and advanced courses. Area of specialization open but preference will be given to management and marketing applicants. Supervision of internships is expected. This faculty member may also provide instructional support in the program areas of Communication, Criminal Justice, and Sport Management. The position also includes academic advising, assisting with program leadership and curriculum development, committee work, and service to the college. The college is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in a field pertinent to Business; ABD will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong teaching record, innovative ideas for course development and pedagogy, and a willingness to help students apply their work both inside and outside the classroom in creative ways.

COMPUTER SCIENCE FACULTY POSITION
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time Computer Science faculty member who is interested in an exciting opportunity to develop a Computer Science companion program to our existing Digital Forensic Science Program. Responsibilities for this position include a 24-credit per year teaching load; academic advising; committee work; and service to the college and the wider community. Computer Science faculty will be teamed with experienced Digital Forensic Science faculty and the position will involve significant cross-training. Successful candidates should be versatile, adaptable, prepared to learn while teaching, and have a healthy curiosity about the Digital Forensic Science field as well as their own.

Preferred candidates will have a terminal degree in computer science or related field or ABD status; candidates with a master’s degree will be considered. Rank and tenure track consideration is commensurate with education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant real-world software solution experience and higher education teaching experience.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF EXERCISE SCIENCE
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on a variety of courses that may include Biomechanics & Kinesiology, Fitness and Wellness Programming, Introduction to Exercise Science, Coaching and Sport Leadership, Organization and Administration, and supervision of internships and field experiences. This faculty member may also provide instructional support in the program areas of Athletic Training and Sport Management. The position also includes academic advising; assisting with program leadership and curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS 

TEACHER EDUCATION CLINICAL SUPERVISORS
The Defiance College Teacher Education program is seeking part-time Clinical Supervisors for Teacher Education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences in the Fall and Spring, and 15-week Internships in the Spring. Our Licensure areas include Early and Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult (core content areas), Intervention Specialist Mild-to-Moderate (K-12), and Health and Physical Education (Pre-K-12). Clinical Supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a Master’s Degree in Education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. PART-TIME INSTRUCTORS
Defiance College seeks qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face to face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback.

INSTRUCTORS FOR APPLIED MUSIC LESSONS
Defiance College is seeking applicants for anticipated instructional needs in applied music lessons for guitar, piano, and band and orchestral instruments. Instructors provide 12 lessons and a performance assessment. Candidates must be willing to recruit and build instrumental music studios and potentially small ensembles, based on department needs. Successful candidates are encouraged to develop a private studio from area secondary schools while using the college facilities and marketing. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or other related field. Defiance College Music Programs serves students through a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles. Music ensembles involve students in cooperative learning environments developing aural, communication, and leadership skills. GRADUATE ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER
Defiance College, an NCAA Division III institution affiliated with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and sponsor of 20 intercollegiate athletic teams, seeks applicants for two anticipated openings for Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers. This is a joint endeavor with Mercy Health Defiance Clinic that will allow the individual an opportunity to acquire a broad range of experiences. At the College, the graduate assistant will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with coverage of athletic teams and assist with administrative duties related to the Athletic Training Education Program. Specific assignments will include supervision of athletic training students on the field, in the training room, and at local high school events. The individual will also work within the Mercy Health Defiance Clinic assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with high school coverage, bump clinic coverage and other administrative tasks. Other responsibilities at the Mercy Health Defiance Clinic include assisting the Director of Physical Therapy in providing patient care in the clinic setting, and promoting the Mercy Health Defiance Clinic Sports Medicine program through marketing / public relations events.

This is a 2-year assistantship with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2018. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree, be BOC certified (or eligible), licensed (or eligible) by the State of Ohio Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Athletic Trainer Board, and have previous athletic training experience with a variety of sports. Compensation includes salary, college-provided housing, and a meal plan on campus when meals are served to students during the academic year. The successful candidate must be accepted into the Defiance College graduate program in Business and will be awarded a full graduate school tuition scholarship covering a maximum of 36 credit hours. Additionally, a tuition waiver of up to 9 credit hours will be applied toward any pre-requisite courses which may be needed for the MBA program, provided they are taken at Defiance College.
