PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS 


Part-Time Instructors – Applied Music Lessons

Guitar, Viola, Trumpet, Horn, and Tuba

Defiance College is seeking part-time instructors for anticipated needs in applied music lessons. The anticipated needs include Guitar, Viola, High Brass, and Low Brass. Instructors provide 12 lessons and a performance assessment. Candidates must be willing to recruit and build instrumental music studios and potentially small ensembles, based on department needs. Successful candidates are encouraged to develop a private studio from area secondary schools while using the college facilities and marketing. Candidates must hold a valid music credential and Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in performance or a performance certificate preferred. Part-Time Instructor – Theater

Defiance College is seeking a part-time instructor to direct the Defiance College Players theater production and/or teach The History of Musical Theater. The successful candidate will select, audition, and direct all aspects of the spring play. In addition, the individual may be offered an additional stipend for course instruction in the History of Musical Theatre. This course studies the development and literature of specific genres. It is a survey style course, ranging from the ancient Greeks to modern day, studying the art of story through song. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Theater and successful experiences in theater strongly preferred. Teacher Education Clinical Supervisors

The Defiance College Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in practicum experiences and internships during the academic year. Our Licensure areas include Early and Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult (core content areas), Intervention Specialist Mild-to-Moderate (K-12), and Health and Physical Education (K-12). Clinical Supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus. Additionally, Clinical Supervisors of Interns are required to attend a weekly seminar with their supervisees.

Requirements include a master’s degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. Additional expectations of this position include mentoring of student-athletes and commitment to their academic progress and degree completion; development of a service learning/engagement project for student-athletes; knowledge of and commitment to all NCAA, HCAC, and institutional rules and regulations; game administration duties; some departmental and campus committee work/involvement; and possible teaching assignments.

A bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree preferred. Assistant Football Coach (2 positions: one offense and one defense)

Defiance College seeks two Assistant Football Coaches with needs on both the offensive and defensive sides. The Assistant Football Coaches support the planning and directing of all functions of the football program and are responsible for assisting the head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and development, including but not limited to overall student-athlete instruction, recruiting, game and practice planning, budget management, fundraising and student-athlete performance. The selected individuals will take a lead role in all phases of recruiting, including personnel evaluation, on-campus visit planning, along with monitoring progress toward the program’s recruiting goals. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong communication skills and successful Division III recruiting experience. Specific coaching assignment is flexible based on candidate’s background. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, Heartland Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred. Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach

Defiance College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) located in northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach. With four indoor tennis courts in our recently-constructed Athletic Center and recent renovations to our six outdoor courts, our tennis teams have some of the nicest facilities in NCAA Division III.

Vice President of Academic Affairs and Academic Dean

Defiance College, a small, liberal arts-based institution of higher education located in northwest Ohio is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and energetic senior administrator to collaborate with and advise the President, Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and students of the college on academic affairs and on other day-to-day operations relevant to the academic mission of the college. The Vice President of Academic Affairs and Academic Dean will serve as the Chief Academic Officer and will lead a dedicated faculty/staff to develop and promote a learning organization environment that encourages a culture of engagement, forward movement, and shared governance. The Vice President of Academic Affairs and Academic Dean is responsible for academic matters such as curriculum development and assessment, recruitment that enhances the faculty profile of the institution, faculty development, support, and engagement, and development of academic and related co-curricular initiatives/programs. The successful candidate is expected to have an earned doctorate or a terminal degree, preferably in one of the disciplines traditionally associated with the arts and sciences; academic administrative or other relevant experience; and an ability to work as a creative partner with the President, President’s Cabinet, senior leadership, and the college and local communities to move Defiance College to new heights of academic excellence.

The ideal candidate will have a notable teaching/scholarly background; demonstrate a commitment to involvement in service to the college, community, and the profession; and exhibit excellent transformational leadership qualities. In addition, the applicant, in conjunction with the President, should be able to articulate a clear academic vision for the future of a small liberal arts-based college and demonstrate commitment to the development of a holistic learning environment (blending of curricular/co-curricular experiences) that leads to student success. The ideal candidate will also have experience managing in environments with limited resources, an ability to encourage and facilitate innovative ideas and approaches to serving both traditional and non-traditional undergraduate and graduate students in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments, and the ability to facilitate dynamic cultural immersion and service-learning initiatives.

Defiance College, founded in 1850 is a private, co-educational college located in the northwest corner of Ohio. The city of Defiance has 17,000 residents and is located about an hour from both Toledo, OH and Fort Wayne, IN and just a few hours from Detroit, MI; Columbus, OH; Cleveland, OH; Indianapolis, IN; and Chicago, IL. Director of Physical Plant

Defiance College has an immediate opening for a Director of Physical Plant to manage and direct all aspects of the college buildings and grounds.

The individual will be responsible for all matters pertaining to the planning, engineering, upkeep, and functionality of campus buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include: equipment repair and preventative maintenance; utilities and systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, fire alarm and waste management; construction and remodeling projects; custodial and grounds keeping services; security, parking, communication, and transportation systems; and personnel management. Develops and oversees operating and capital budgets to meet short and long term goals. Develops and monitors an emergency response and recovery plan and ensures compliance with OSHA standards and other regulations, statutes, and codes. Represents the college at internal and external meetings of committees and officials.

The individual must have proven management abilities and organizational skills, strong supervisory and interpersonal skills, and be detail oriented. The ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work within established budgets is essential. The individual will be required to respond to emergency calls beyond normal business hours and must hold a valid driver’s license. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field and strong background or training in HVAC, refrigeration, electricity and building construction. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
