Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Forensic Science

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry with extensive background in forensic science to commence Fall 2016. The successful candidate will have extensive background in forensic science and be able to provide instruction in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, forensic chemistry, and a non-major science course. Responsibilities include a 24-credit teaching load; academic advising; curriculum development; instrument maintenance; committee work; and service to the college. The individual will have the responsibility of refining, overseeing and growing the forensic science program. There is significant curricular overlap within Forensic Sciences and Molecular Biology program as well as shared instrumental facilities.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field for the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates that are ABD or have extensive forensic science laboratory experience combined with a related graduate degree will be considered, but rank would be Instructor. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral, industrial experience and/or forensic laboratory experience with excellent theoretical understanding and practical expertise with advanced instrumentation used in a forensic laboratory (e.g., advanced methods of spectroscopic analysis, GC/MS, HPLC, advanced microscopy, molecular biological analysis).

Assistant Professor of Communication Studies

Defiance College invites applications for an anticipated opening for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of Communication Studies. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load in a variety of courses in the Communication Studies major, academic advising and curriculum development, scholarship leading to conference presentations and publication, and service to the college.

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in Communication Studies or related field; ABD will be considered but rank would be Instructor. We seek a teacher-scholar with interests in film and media studies, preferably with critical/cultural studies background. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong teaching record, innovative ideas for course development and pedagogy, and a willingness to help students apply their work both inside and outside the classroom in creative ways.

Assistant Professor of Design

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for an anticipated opening for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Design to commence Fall 2016. The Design program at Defiance College is a new program which houses two tracks: 2D Design (Graphic Design) and 3D Design (Product Design). Students study in both tracks to broaden their skills and gain exposure to the expanding landscape of art and design. After choosing a track, students explore and refine their thinking and making techniques.

Duties include a 24-credit per year teaching load involving graphic design (print and web formats), digital photography, and foundation courses in 2D and 3D design. Responsibilities will also include academic advising, curriculum development, equipment maintenance, and involvement in committee and college service.

The successful candidate must have an MFA or other terminal degree in Graphic Design, Package Design, Photography, or other relevant area; ABD will be considered but rank would be Instructor. College teaching experience, including the ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses, and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is required. Additional desirable candidate attributes include: a demonstrated record of creative work; expertise in digital photography, with an emphasis on portfolio preparation and product photography; experience designing creative packaging for consumer goods; and understanding of materials and manufacturing processes in package design.

Digital Forensic Science Full-Time Faculty Position

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a Digital Forensic Science faculty member. Responsibilities for this full-time position include a 24-credit per year teaching load involving undergraduate courses in digital forensic science; academic advising; curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college and the wider community. DFS faculty routinely interact with law enforcement and private sector digital forensic practitioners to develop and share best practices for the forensic examination of emerging technologies.

Candidates must have a master’s or doctoral degree in information technology, digital forensics, computer engineering, cybersecurity, information assurance, or related field. Rank and tenure track consideration is commensurate with education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant digital forensics or cybersecurity work experience, teaching experience, or a law enforcement background.

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for an anticipated opening for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology to commence Fall 2016. Duties include a 24-credit per year teaching load in a wide variety of undergraduate courses to psychology majors and students in other disciplines including Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Education. Responsibilities will also include using up-to-date teaching strategies that focus on student engagement and service learning, academic advising, and involvement in committee and college service.

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D) for the rank of Assistant Professor; ABD will be considered but rank would be Instructor. College teaching experience and the ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses is required. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in clinical psychology.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

The following are two-year assistantships with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2016. Successful candidates must be accepted into the Defiance College graduate program in Education or Business and will be awarded a full graduate school tuition scholarship covering a maximum of 36 credit hours. Additionally, a tuition waiver of up to 9 credit hours will be applied toward any pre-requisite courses which may be needed for the MBA program, provided they are taken at Defiance College. Compensation includes stipend, college-provided housing, and a meal plan on campus when meals are served to students during the academic year.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT – STUDENT ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES (anticipated opening)
Defiance College seeks qualified applicants for an anticipated opening for an individual to serve as Graduate Assistant for the Structured Study Program within Student Academic Support Services. Student Academic Support Services (SASS) supports the educational mission of Defiance College by providing academic services to students in a hospitable and positive atmosphere where personal growth and academic improvement are nurtured, long-term success is supported, and learning is the priority. Services and programs provided include tutoring, supplemental instruction, and writing services, and are designed to engage students in developing effective learning strategies and skills for a successful transition to college and for academic success throughout their college career and beyond.

The Graduate Assistant will serve as an assistant to the Director of Student Academic Support Services and assist with administrative duties related to academic support services, including the Structured Study Program (SSP). The individual is responsible for providing assistance in the selection, training, and assignment of peer mentors and tutors. Duties include monitoring SSP sessions, administering surveys and assessment for SASS services, communicating with coaches and/or faculty to meet the needs of students, scheduling both participants/clients and student workers, leading study skill workshops, creating marketing materials, and entering data as well as compiling semester and yearly statistics.

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, possess a strong academic record, and have set academic excellence as a priority. Knowledge of college student/adult development; learning assistance programs; learning style variations; student-athlete demands; and tutoring, teaching, learning, and collaboration techniques are necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is a must.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT – MUSIC PROGRAMS (anticipated opening)
Defiance College seeks qualified applicants for an anticipated opening for an individual to serve as a graduate assistant for the music programs, including both choral and instrumental. The individual will focus primarily on the recruitment of prospective high school students to participate in Music Programs. Responsibilities will also include recruiting current DC students into the DC Music Programs, assisting music ensembles, developing and maintaining inventory of music and equipment, assisting with Music Programs events, and other duties assigned by the Director of Music Programs. 

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and have a strong musical background. Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education. Keyboarding skills are desirable as is familiarity with wind ensemble and band music repertoire. Applicants with previous experience in music education will receive top consideration. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, have a clean driving record, and be able to adjust to a flexible work schedule requiring evening and weekend work.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT – SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR (anticipated opening)
The graduate assistant will assist with coordination of publicity and media relations and promotion of the College’s 19 intercollegiate sports programs. Primary responsibilities will include layout and design of media guides, game-day programs and game note packets; writing press releases; daily maintenance of www.DefianceAthletics.com; keeping statistics and performing other game day tasks; and other duties as assigned by the Sports Information Director. GRADUATE ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER (two anticipated openings)
Defiance College, an NCAA Division III institution affiliated with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and sponsor of 19 intercollegiate athletic teams, seeks applicants for two anticipated openings for Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers. This is a joint endeavor with Mercy Defiance Clinic that will allow the individual an opportunity to acquire a broad range of experiences. At the College, the graduate assistant will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with coverage of athletic teams and assist with administrative duties related to the Athletic Training Education Program. Specific assignments will include supervision of athletic training students on the field, in the training room, and at local high school events. The individual will also work within the Mercy Defiance Clinic assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with high school coverage, bump clinic coverage and other administrative tasks. Other responsibilities at the Mercy Defiance Clinic include assisting the Director of Physical Therapy in providing patient care in the clinic setting, and promoting the Mercy Defiance Clinic Sports Medicine program through marketing / public relations events.
