Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face-to-face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback. Applicants must hold a master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in relevant field and professional or teaching experience desirable.

Defiance College is seeking to build an applicant pool for anticipated instructional needs in applied music lessons for:

Woodwinds: flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone
Brass: trumpet, french horn, baritone, trombone, tuba
Strings: violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar

Instructors provide 14 lessons and a performance assessment per semester. Instructors will have the potential to build private studios and work with ensembles. The Music Program seeks candidates with an interest in working with students of all skill levels, as well as energy and drive to contribute to growing a small program. Candidates must hold a master's degree in music education, music performance, or other related field. The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. Defiance College seeks an individual to coordinate the administrative requirements and assist in all responsibilities key to the Registrar’s Office. The individual will work closely with the Registrar and responsibilities will include assisting with: academic scheduling, registration, program degree audits, degree evaluations, plans of studies, transfer credit evaluations, and veteran benefits. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who possesses critical thinking skills, has the ability to analyze information, and is familiar with automated information systems. The individual must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to respond professionally to sensitive situations. Competencies in data entry and detail accuracy are a must. A Bachelor’s Degree and previous experience in customer service or related professional field is required. Previous work experience at a higher education institution is desirable.

An opening exists for an individual to serve as the Coordinator of the ASD Affinity Program and Coordinator of Clinical Experiences. The coordinator will provide oversight to all aspects of the ASD Affinity Program, which offers comprehensive services supporting college students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) enrolled at Defiance College and will also be responsible for the placement of teacher education candidates in field experience and student teaching sites.

ASD Affinity Program:Reporting to and collaborating closely with the Director of the Hench Autism Studies Program, responsibilities include: providing direct supervision and training for the peer interventionists; recording and analyzing program participant data and designing or implementing appropriate interventions; developing and teaching workshops for program participants students; communicating with participants and parents as appropriate; and coordinating all aspects of the Hench Summer Program, a two-week day camp designed to provide social opportunities for local teens/young adults with ASD.The individual will also assist in the evaluation of admission applications for prospective program participants, coordinate employment experiences for participants, and assist with airport transportation as necessary during semester break periods.

Clinical Experiences: Reporting to the Director of Teacher Education, the individual will support the Teacher Education programs by coordinating the process for placing teacher candidates in practicum and student teaching settings in partner schools and clinical sites. Responsibilities include: developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with P-12 school partners; orienting administrators and mentor teachers to program requirements and mediate conflicts that may arise during practicum and internship experiences; facilitating the hiring of field supervisors; planning training sessions and meetings; and assist in maintaining records of all tasks related to clinical experiences for teacher candidates.

This full-time position with a work schedule equivalent to 11 months requires a bachelor’s degree in human services, education, social work, or a related field. Experience working with individuals with ASD and experience training and supervising students and/or staff is desirable. A Master's degree and significant teaching and/or administrative experience is preferred.

Defiance College has an immediate opening for an energetic and creative music professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Music Programs. Reporting to the Director of Music Programs through Student Affairs, this is an administrative staff position (not faculty) which will require some teaching. The Assistant Director will have direct responsibility for conducting, leading, and delivering instrumental music performance experiences for students, be heavily involved in new student recruitment; and will be responsible for building ensembles. Defiance College offers a music minor so the Assistant Director will also teach at least three-credit hours of content-based music courses per academic year, as well as private instrumental lessons when necessary. Other duties include the management of sheet music inventory and assisting with the inventory control of instrumental music equipment.

Defiance College currently serves just over 500 students; approximately 20 of whom are actively involved in Music Programs through vocal and instrumental ensembles and private lessons, and approximately 5 students participate in our music minor. Performance ensembles are open to everyone regardless of major or sport, and music classes are open to all students.

The successful candidate for this full-time, 10-month administrative staff appointment (August 1 to May 31) must have a Master’s degree with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a background in Music Education or Performance and additional training or work experience in Arts Administration. The individual must be capable of leading, rehearsing, and conducting individuals and musical ensembles for public performances, be able to travel on occasion, and be able to adjust to a flexible work schedule, which will include some evenings and some weekends.

Defiance College seeks a seasoned administrative professional to provide support to the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Academic Dean (VPAA) providing a wide range of multifaceted and confidential duties involved in the academic administration of the college.

The individual is the first point of contact for the Office of Academic Affairs and must possess excellent communication skills, display a high level of professionalism, and be able to use tact and diplomacy. Responsibilities include: track faculty teaching loads; maintain the VPAA’s calendar and manage the office budget; provide support for instructional staffing, academic assessment, student probation and suspension activities; manage, track, and analyze various academic data; prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents; arrange and organize meetings; arrange travel; oversee and coordinate activities for special events such as Convocation and Commencement; take and transcribe minutes for faculty and Board of Trustee meetings; and other duties for efficient operation of the Office of Academic Affairs.  

The successful candidate must be a self-starter and possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of administrative, technology, and office procedures; be able to work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals; possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Preferred applicants will have completed some college coursework (bachelor’s degree preferred). All candidates must have significant administrative and/or secretarial employment experience.
