Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face to face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback.

Defiance College is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a general biology course to non-science majors. Topics include the cell, inheritance, evolution, animal anatomy and physiology, and ecology. Particular attention will be given to the human species and how it fits in the environment. Teaching the associated lab may also be included. A Master’s Degree or higher in Biology or a related field is required and applicants must be willing to participate in the college assessment process. The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time Clinical Supervisors for Teacher Education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the Spring 2019 semester. Our Licensure areas include Early and Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult (core content areas), and Intervention Specialist Mild-to-Moderate (K-12). Clinical Supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a Master’s Degree in Education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. The newly created Institute for Pre-Health and Wellness Studies at Defiance College seeks a leader to develop and implement the vision and mission of the Institute. The Dean of the Institute reports to the Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs and sits on the Academic Affairs senior leadership team. Duties of the Dean include: advising pre-health studies students and other students interested in health and wellness studies; recruiting and working with incoming students interested in health fields; developing an advisory board; developing articulation agreements with other colleges and universities in health and wellness studies; creating internship sites; collaborating with faculty in curricular innovations; and creating a lectureship series relevant to the topics of health and wellness. 

This full-time administrative position with a work schedule equivalent to 11 months requires a master’s degree or higher in any field of study, but preference for those with course work in health-related fields. Demonstrable experience with admissions, advising, and retention within higher education is required Applicants must have knowledge of health and wellness fields, be able to manage multiple tasks, and possess excellent communication skills. Evidence of work with faculty and staff on curriculum and programming is essential. College level teaching experience desirable.

Defiance College seeks a seasoned administrative professional to provide support to the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Academic Dean (VPAA) providing a wide range of multifaceted and confidential duties involved in the academic administration of the college.

The individual is the first point of contact for the Office of Academic Affairs and must possess excellent communication skills, display a high level of professionalism, and be able to use tact and diplomacy. Responsibilities include: track faculty teaching loads and prepare letters of appointment; maintain the VPAA’s calendar and manage the office budget; provide support for instructional staffing, academic assessment, student probation and suspension activities; manage, track, and analyze various academic data; prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents; arrange and organize meetings; arrange travel; oversee and coordinate activities for special events such as Convocation and Commencement; take and transcribe minutes for faculty and Board of Trustee meetings; and other duties for efficient operation of the Office of Academic Affairs. 

The successful candidate must be a self-starter and possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of administrative, technology, and office procedures; be able to work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals; possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Applicants must have completed some college coursework (bachelor’s degree preferred) and have significant administrative and/or secretarial employment experience.

Defiance College seeks a part-time Administrative Assistant for the Office of Academic Affairs. The individual will report to the Chief Academic Officer and will provide secretarial and administrative support for faculty and externally-accredited academic programs.

Responsibilities of this part-time, 9-month position include preparing and managing correspondence and reports, implementing and maintaining office systems and databases, organizing and maintaining records for accreditation, taking meeting minutes, providing organizational and logistical support for events and activities, providing customer service support to the Registration Office, and other support duties as assigned. The individual must be able to maintain thorough and accurate records; work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals; and possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MSOffice and the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask critical to the position. High school diploma required; Associate degree and office experience are preferred. The hourly rate for this position will be in the range of $11.00-11.50 per hour.

Defiance College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference located in Northwest Ohio, invites applications for the position of Head Cheer and Dance Coach for a start-up program to begin competition in 2018-2019. Responsibilities will include all duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate cheer and dance program including, but not limited to, recruiting, coaching, budget management, organization of training, practices and competitions, academic monitoring and other duties as assigned.

Candidates must demonstrate significant knowledge of cheer and dance, proven success in coaching cheer and dance at the collegiate or high school level, the ability to recruit, develop and motivate Division III student-athletes, a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes, knowledge of and commitment to all NCAA, HCAC and institutional rules and regulations, good communication skills, and strong leadership. A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and valid driver’s license are required. Review of applications for this full-time, 10-month August 1-May 31 position (with an immediate start date this first year) will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.
