Defiance College, chartered in 1850, is an independent, coeducational, liberal arts
institution and has a student population of nearly 1100. Defiance is a college where
students learn to lead and serve in a democracy; learn to understand, appreciate,
and have the skills to interact with other cultures; and learn to not only receive
knowledge but to make their own knowledge by engaging in interactive experiences.
Our Vision creates an educational experience of engagement in civic, cultural, and
learning dimensions. Students can have hands-on experiences in their field of study
through quality internships, domestic and international travel, diverse cultural encounters,
and distinctive service and research opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Defiance College's role as a national and innovative leader in service learning and
engagement has been recognized by the Corporation for National and Community Service
which named Defiance among the top 20 schools in the nation for community service
and engagement. This designation was made by naming Defiance College as a Presidential
Award Finalist for the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
DC has also been named a Military Friendly School for providing significant benefits
