FACULTY POSITIONS

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology. The appointment will commence Fall 2020.

Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load, student advising, committee work, and continuing professional development. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the applicant’s area of expertise, as well as general biology. It is highly desirable that candidates have experience in a crime lab and/or forensic science. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous teaching experience in higher education, with evidence of effective teaching at the introductory level and research applicable to developing an undergraduate research program. Applicants must be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, be familiar with new technology, and willing to incorporate technology into the classroom and laboratory, and be open to teaching strategies that enhance student success. Ph.D. required but advanced ABD will be considered.

ENGLISH INSTRUCTOR
Defiance College is accepting applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, instructor in English. This is a renewable appointment of up to three years (annual renewal based upon satisfactory performance review, staffing needs, and funding). Responsibilities include teaching 12-credit hours per semester from our three core composition courses (ENGL 109: Writing Workshop, ENGL 125: Composition I, and ENGL 225: Composition II) and supervising the online college newspaper, The Defender. Experience in working with developing writers, journalism, or online teaching is desirable. Applicants must possess an MFA or Master's, preferably in Composition and Rhetoric, English, or Creative Writing; PhD preferred. The appointment will begin in August 2020.

VISITING SCHOLAR IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES
The Charles K and Esther C. Krieger Visiting Scholars Program at Defiance College invites applications for a Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies for Fall 2020 through Spring 2022 with an August 2020 start. This is primarily a teaching position, and the Visiting Scholar will teach three courses per semester in religious studies, including courses in the scholar's area of interest, and the first-year seminar World Issues. World Issues is a course that utilizes the Reacting to the Past Pedagogy. Candidates with experience in Reacting to the Past are particularly desirable. The Visiting Scholar will also coordinate a public exhibit in the Spring that promotes interfaith dialogue and understanding. The Visiting Scholar also submits an annual report of activities due to the foundation.

The position provides an annual stipend of $44,000 with room and board, plus health benefits. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Religion or Religious Studies or other relevant field with an emphasis in the Abrahamic traditions of Christianity or Islam. The first Krieger Scholar was an expert in Judaism, and it is the wishes of the foundation that this position rotate over time to fulfill the vision of interfaith dialogue and understanding.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a qualified candidate to fill a full-time tenure-track faculty position in a newly created major in Environmental Science. The appointment will commence fall 2020.

Teaching responsibilities include courses at the introductory level and in the applicant's area of expertise. Candidates that can teach GIS and/or remote sensing, have an agricultural science and/or an ability to teach science courses for non-majors are desirable. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous teaching experience in higher education with evidence of effectiveness at the introductory level; the desire to develop an undergraduate research program; and an ability to be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. It is strongly desired that applicants have familiarity with new technology, a willingness to incorporate technology into the classroom and laboratory, and be open to teaching strategies that enhance student success. A Ph.D. in environmental science, ecology, environmental biology, environmental chemistry or environmental geology with GIS and/or remote sensing is required; advanced ABD will be considered.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology. Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load, student advising, committee work, and continuing professional development. Applicants should be committed to mentoring undergraduate research and have a plan for including undergraduates in their research initiatives.

The successful candidate should have completed a Ph.D. or Psy.D. program; ABD will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in the areas of Cognitive, Clinical, or Experimental Psychology. Candidates must be willing to teach across subfields in a variety of courses, such as Introductory Psychology, Memory and Cognition, Research Methods, Neuroscience, Abnormal Psychology, Clinical/Counseling Psychology, and selected topics courses in their area of expertise.

Supervision of internships is expected. Defiance College is accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education.

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in a field pertinent to Business; advanced ABD will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong teaching record, innovative ideas for course development and pedagogy, and a willingness to help students apply their work both inside and outside the classroom in creative ways. Professional experience in the field of finance or economics is desirable.

INSTRUCTORS FOR APPLIED MUSIC LESSONS
Defiance College is seeking to build an applicant pool for anticipated instructional needs in applied music lessons for:

Woodwinds: flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone
Brass: trumpet, french horn, baritone, trombone, tuba
Strings: violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar

Instructors provide 14 lessons and a performance assessment per semester. Instructors will have the potential to build private studios and work with ensembles. The Music Program seeks candidates with an interest in working with students of all skill levels, as well as energy and drive to contribute to growing a small program. Candidates must hold a master's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or other related field. TEACHER EDUCATION CLINICAL SUPERVISORS
The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time Clinical Supervisors for Teacher Education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the Fall and Spring semesters. Our Licensure areas include Early and Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult (core content areas), and Intervention Specialist Mild-to-Moderate (K-12). Clinical Supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in Education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

ASSISTANT TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY COACH
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the HCAC, seeks an individual to serve as an assistant coach for the men's and women's track and field and cross country programs. The individual will provide organization and leadership for all phases of these programs and responsibilities will include recruiting, meet preparation, practice organization, fund raising, mentoring of student-athletes, and developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes.

A bachelor's degree, previous collegiate coaching and recruiting experience, and a valid unrestricted driver's license are required. A master's degree, USATF or USTFCCCA coaching education certification, and ability to coach multi-events preferred. This position requires some evening and weekend work combined with business hours and some recruiting travel.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
Defiance College seeks applications and nominations for an Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. Reporting to the President, the Executive Director will serve on the President's Cabinet and be responsible for leading and further developing a comprehensive advancement program within the framework of the distinctive College Vision combining civic, cultural, and learning engagement. As the chief development officer, the Executive Director will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the advancement program and manages all fundraising initiatives for the annual fund and alumni/ae engagement, capital improvements and strategic fundraising opportunities, estate and planned giving, and the endowment. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all institutional advancement activities, building and maintaining positive community relations, and promoting a positive image of Defiance College.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) with a minimum of five years of administrative leadership and demonstrated accomplishment in the field of development, preferably in higher education. EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Defiance College seeks a seasoned administrative professional to provide support to the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Academic Dean (VPAA) providing a wide range of multifaceted and confidential duties involved in the academic administration of the college.

The individual is the first point of contact for the Office of Academic Affairs and must possess excellent communication skills, display a high level of professionalism, and be able to use tact and diplomacy. Responsibilities include: track faculty teaching loads; maintain the VPAA's calendar and manage the office budget; provide support for instructional staffing, academic assessment, student probation and suspension activities; manage, track, and analyze various academic data; prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents; arrange and organize meetings; arrange travel; oversee and coordinate activities for special events such as Convocation and Commencement; take and transcribe minutes for faculty and Board of Trustee meetings; and other duties for efficient operation of the Office of Academic Affairs.

Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, seeks qualified applicants for an anticipated opening for a graduate assistant to the Sports Information Director. The individual will assist with coordination of publicity, media relations and promotion of the College's 21 intercollegiate sports programs. Primary responsibilities will include serving as the main contact for at least four sports; layout and design of media guides, game-day programs and game-note packets; writing news releases and stories; daily maintenance of www.DefianceAthletics.com; keeping statistics and performing other game-day tasks; and other duties as assigned by the Sports Information Director.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and have strong organizational, writing, and communication skills. Applicants with previous experience in a sports information department and a working knowledge of PrestoSports, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Stat Crew will receive top consideration. GRADUATE ASSISTANT - ATHLETIC TRAINER
Defiance College seeks applicants for two anticipated openings for graduate assistant athletic trainers. This is a joint endeavor with Mercy Health Defiance Clinic that will allow the individual an opportunity to acquire a broad range of experiences. At the College, the graduate assistant will assist the head athletic trainer with coverage of athletic teams and assist with administrative duties. The individual will also work within the Mercy Health Defiance Hospital assisting the head athletic trainer with high school coverage, student-athlete drug testing, annual sports physicals and other administrative tasks.

This is a 2-year assistantship with an anticipated start date of August 3, 2020. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, be BOC certified (or eligible), licensed (or eligible) by the State of Ohio Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Athletic Trainer Board, and have previous athletic training experience with a variety of sports.
