Defiance College welcomes Dan Benjamin as commencement speaker

One hundred and seventy-eight graduates will be awarded diplomas during Defiance College’s 2016 commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7. The ceremony will begin at 12 noon on the Colonnade Green in front of Pilgrim Library.

Nursing pinning ceremony honored Defiance College seniors

Five students were recently awarded pins at a ceremony recognizing their achievements as nursing students. The pins serve as a prestigious rite of passage as they graduate with bachelor’s degrees in the nursing profession.

Yellow Jacket Band car wash on Saturday

Spring concert to be performed by DC Community Band

DC Chamber Singers to present spring concert April 23

Defiance College Chamber Singers present “There is Hope” for its annual spring choral concert Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the sanctuary of St. John United Church of Christ, located at 950 Webster St. on the Defiance College campus.

Defiance College’s McMaster School for Advancing Humanity will hold its twelfth annual McMaster Symposium April 13 - 14 on the DC campus. The theme will be “The Question of Individual Liberties as Critical to Improving the Human Condition.” All presentations are free and open to the public.

DC wrestlers earn All American Honors at national competition

The Defiance College wrestling team concluded its 2016 season by bringing home two All American Honors and a tenth place finish as a team at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Championships held this past weekend in Kissimmee, Fla.

Rising artist Amy Casey featured in Defiance College gallery

Opportunity to view nursing tribute film in Defiance

Defiance College and the Northwest Ohio Nurses Association (NONA) will be partnering to show a nursing film and documentary. Two show times will be offered Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Schomburg Auditorium at Defiance College; the first at 4:30 p.m. and the second showing at 7:30 p.m.

 

Defiance College CAN help with area hunger

Students, faculty, and staff recently teamed up during a hunger-awareness event on the Defiance College campus. The event, entitled “CAN You Build It?”, collected 1,823 cans of food which were donated to the PATH Center.

 

Defiance College students' anti-trafficking efforts earn Liberator of the Year award

The Defiance College chapter of “Free the Slaves” was awarded the Ohio Liberator of the Year award on the evening of Jan. 17 at the Ohio Liberator Awards ceremony. The award highlights and acknowledges work against human trafficking.

 

Annual Defiance College Empty Bowls event on Feb. 18

The 16th annual Empty Bowls event to benefit the PATH Center is planned for Thursday, Feb. 18, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 111 Elliott Road. The project is sponsored by the Defiance College Social Work Organization. The goal is to raise funds to help feed the hungry, with all proceeds going to the PATH Center.

 

Katie St. Clair gallery reception at Defiance College on Feb. 5

A reception for artist Katie St. Clair will be held Friday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Defiance College Women's Commission Art Gallery. Her show, entitled "Erratics," is currently on display in the gallery.

 

Students represent Defiance College in intercollegiate honor band

January 26, 2016

Five members from the Defiance College bands were represented at the 28th Ohio Private Colleges Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA) Intercollegiate Honor Band this past weekend at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. The performance was on Sunday at 1:30 pm at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center in Cambridge.

 

Poetry collection by Defiance College professor to be published

January 7, 2016

The latest poetry collection by Dr. Mary Catherine Harper, professor of English at Defiance College, is about to be published. Entitled Some Gods Don’t Need Saints, the collection of lyric poetry is scheduled for release by Finishing Line Press on March 18. The chapbook is a semifinalist in the 2015 New Women’s Voices Chapbook Competition.

Tax preparation advice at Defiance College Jan. 19

Nathan Ehmann of Freedom Tax and Accounting Services, Toledo, will discuss common mistakes people make in preparing their taxes when he speaks at Defiance College on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. in Schomburg Auditorium.
