Defiance College to hold Military Appreciation Day at Oct. 10 football game

October 2, 2015

Defiance College will hold a Military and Veterans Appreciation Day on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the DC-Manchester football game. All area veterans are welcome and will be admitted to the game free with their military ID. Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Defiance College Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Defiance College completes thermal solar project on campus

In an effort to become a greener and more energy efficient campus, Defiance College has completed a thermal solar project with installation in August of solar panels on two residence halls. This is in addition to the solar panels installed on the George M. Smart Athletic Center when it was constructed in 2011.

Defiance College’s Lindsay Kasmer receives state service award from Ohio Campus Compact

Defiance College student Lindsay Kasmer, Medina, Ohio, is a 2014-15 recipient of the Charles J. Ping Student Service Award from Ohio Campus Compact. Kasmer, a senior majoring in social work and psychology, is one of only 14 college and university students in Ohio to receive the honor.


Defiance College Chamber Singers and Choral Union to hold spring concert

The Defiance College Choral Union and Defiance College Chamber Singers will be presenting an evening of choral music on Saturday, April 26, at 4:30 p.m. in St. John United Church of Christ, Webster Street. The concert program is entitled “Imprints,” and focuses on the influences of music on the mind, body, soul.

Defiance College seniors to present their work in art gallery

Defiance College Women’s Commission Art Gallery and the Defiance College Design Department presents the work of Michael Degler and Britny Krill for their Senior Show “Artmageddon: The End is Near.” With two differing approaches to their work, Degler and Krill both address salient issues in their lives through painting, physical collage, and ceramics.


DC Chamber Singers to hold Church Sing this Sunday

On Sunday, April 19, the Defiance College Chamber Singers will be visiting a number of Defiance area churches for their annual Spring Church Sing. The 40 singers will attend seven area church services sharing their musical talents with each congregation.


Defiance College Community Band wraps up season on April 28

The Defiance College Community Band will present its final concert of the 2014-2015 season on Tuesday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Defiance Community Auditorium. Themed “Americana!” this concert will feature music that captures the American spirit with selections by Aaron Copland, Ryan Nowlin, Rogers and Hammerstein, and more.

Defiance College’s McMaster School for Advancing Humanity will hold its tenth annual McMaster Symposium April 8-9 on the DC campus. The theme will be “The Question of Individual Liberties as Critical to Improving the Human Condition.” All presentations are free and open to the public.


Defiance College concert to benefit Tanzania water project

When Defiance College student Dava Donaldson spent two weeks in Tanzania last year as a McMaster Scholar, she was impacted by the people’s need for clean water. In rural areas of the country, water is not easily accessible, and it is often contaminated, causing illness to those who use it.


Conference on human trafficking set for March 23 at Defiance College

“It Takes a Community,” a conference on human trafficking, will be held Monday, March 23, on the campus of Defiance College. The education and awareness event is sponsored by the DC chapter of Free the Slaves. The conference sessions begin at 8 a.m. in Dana Hall and Schomburg Auditorium.


DCCB Cabaret will feature three local musicians

It’s not too late to reserve a seat for the Defiance College Community Band’s annual Cabaret Concert on Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Weaner Center on the Defiance College campus. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and all seats are by reservation.


Defiance College students present at national political science conference

Two Defiance College students were among presenters at the recent Southern Political Science Association Conference held in New Orleans. Senior Abby Taylor, Carmel, Ind., and junior Dava Donaldson, Elyria, Ohio, were selected to present papers at the SPSA conference, one of largest political science conferences in the U.S.


DCCB annual Cabaret concert set for March 21

DC Black Swamp Symphony Orchestra to present pops concert

The Defiance College Black Swamp Symphony Orchestra will be performing a pops concert featuring music from hit movies. The performance is on Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. at the Gathering Place Church (formerly the Valentine Theatre) in downtown Defiance.

DC Players spring production to feature Ives comedies

Defiance College’s DC Players kick off the spring with an over-the-top, gut-busting, comedy-filled extravaganza of short one-acts by playwright David Ives. Performances will be Friday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m., and, Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 and 8 p.m. at the Schomburg Auditorium in Dana Hall on the DC campus, under the direction of JP Staszel.


Defiance College Service Leaders learn about homelessness in nation’s capital

Twenty Defiance College students spent part of their recent holiday break learning about hunger and homelessness in the nation’s capital. As members of the college’s Service Leadership Program, they traveled to Washington, D.C., where they worked in five different locations in partnership with Amizade: Global Service Learning.

Maurice Clarett to speak Feb. 19 at Defiance College

Former Ohio State football player Maurice Clarett will be speaking at Defiance College on Thursday, Feb. 19. His 7 p.m. appearance at the Weaner Center on Webster Street is free and open to the public. He will be talking about his personal journey and the impact of sport on society.


Annual Defiance College Empty Bowls event slated for Feb. 19

The 15th annual Empty Bowls event to benefit the PATH Center is planned for Thursday, Feb. 19, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 111 Elliott Road. The project is sponsored by the Defiance College Social Work Organization.

President Gordon to step down; accepts position as president and dean of William Mitchell College of Law

Defiance College announced today that President Mark C. Gordon will be stepping down as its 18th president on June 30 in order to accept a position as President and Dean at William Mitchell College of Law in Minnesota.


Defiance College receives national recognition for community service, engagement

Defiance College has again received national recognition for its leadership in community service and engagement with its inclusion in the 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This is the eighth consecutive year that Defiance College has been honored.

Defiance College appoints Repka to advancement staff

Kelly Repka was recently named major gifts officer at Defiance College. She brings more than 20 years of development and fundraising experience to the college’s institutional advancement staff.
