Defiance College Students receive Top Ohio Criminal Justice Awards

Defiance College graduating senior Treasure Bacon of Archbold was named the top Baccalaureate Criminal Justice Student in Ohio at this week’s Annual Research Conference of the Ohio Council of Criminal Justice Education held in Tiffin.

Bacon will graduate summa cum laude on May 6 from Defiance College with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and communication arts with a public relations concentration.

Senior Spencer Munger of Bowling Green was awarded the top paper in the state with his submission, “The Use of Tasers by Officers and Tasers Within the Use-of-Force Continuum.” Munger will graduate magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice.

Professor Steve Sondergaard was elected second vice-president of OCCJE, and Dr. Don Knueve will continue as a trustee.

The Ohio Council of Criminal Justice Education was created more than 40 years ago to bring together criminal justice educators and practitioners to facilitate cooperation and to promote expansion of professional criminal justice education, subsequent application in the field, and to actively engage in the elevation of ethical and personnel standards of the criminal justice field. Two annual activities that highlight the organization’s mission are a fall career fair and a spring research conference.
