Defiance College’s Hench Autism Studies Program to host

Community Outreach Event

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Hench Autism Studies Program is hosting a Community Outreach Event on Saturday, April 5 from 12-3 p.m. The event will be held in the George M. Smart Athletic Center on the DC campus, corner of Webster Street and Stadium Drive.

The Outreach Event is designed to bring awareness to the resources available in Northwest Ohio; opportunity for the community to learn more about autism spectrum disorder; and provide a fun afternoon for families.

Campus and community organization will be participating in the event including DC’s health and physical education major, Pilgrim Library, men’s soccer, swim and dive, Institutional Advancement, Catholics on Campus, Alpha Xi Delta, and community organizations Kaitlyn’s Cottage, The Autism Society of Northwest Ohio, Sara’s Garden, P.A.T.H. Academy, Bryan Center for Autism, Defiance Board of Developmental Disabilities, MassMutual Special Care, Cabin Fever, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver and DARE, Bright Horizons Advocacy and Consulting LLC, Defiance Rotary Club, St. John United Church of Christ, Champaign Residential Services Inc., Family Christian Center, Putt Putt Golf and Games, and Okuley’s Pharmacy.

Organizations that have contributed include Chief Supermarkets, Sodexo, Eric’s Ice Cream, and various campus offices.

The event is open to all families.

The event was planned and will be hosted by DC students who are minoring in Autism Studies. A goal of the event is to develop community involvement and support and create opportunities for collaboration between organizations and families.

Defiance College, chartered in 1850, is an independent, liberal arts institution in Northwest Ohio offering more than 40 undergraduate programs of study as well as graduate programs in education and business.
