Apply for Financial Aid
Office of Financial Aid
Applying for financial aid is easy! There are just a few steps.
The first step is to apply for a FSA ID. Both the student and one parent will need to have a FSA ID. Apply online at FSA ID. The FSA ID will serve as a secure electronic signature.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the next step. Be sure to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1. Defiance College’s priority deadline is April 1. Have a copy of your current tax return and your FSA ID handy to complete the FAFSA. Apply online at FAFSA.
Students that have not previously borrowed from the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program will need to complete Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling. The Counseling session covers your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower. Loan funds can not be disbursed until this is complete. Complete at Federal Student Aid.
Also, if you are a first-time borrower/student at Defiance College, you will need to complete a Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note. Loan funds will not be disbursed until you complete the MPN. The MPN will require your FASFA FSA ID and two references. Complete at Federal Student Aid.
The last step is a step that not all FAFSA applicants will be required to complete. The federal government selects some FAFSA applications for a process called verification. If your FAFSA is selected you will be required to submit a signed copy of your and your parent’s current tax return along with a completed and signed verification worksheet. The verification worksheets are available on the applications and forms page.
