The Sport Management Major is designed for the individual planning to pursue a career as: recreation leader, sporting goods retailer, sport organization administrator, team manager, sports lawyer, sports psychologist, resort manager, golf course or country club manager. It is also appropriate for those considering careers as a sports consultant to businesses, churches, camps, etc. and for those interested in employment as a sports information director or sports journalist. The program is designed to prepare students to obtain either an entry-level position upon graduation or to continue their studies in graduate school.

Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs)

By the completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply theoretical knowledge from the sport management program to practical settings in the amateur, collegiate, and professional sport industry.
  2. Evaluate current issues and future directions of the sport finance and economics, law, event and facility management, communication, and marketing.
  3. Utilize the scientific method to design, analyze quantitative data, evaluate performance, demonstrate findings, and recognize limitations.
  4. Apply strong communication skills (oral and written)  within sport management practice that demonstrate interpersonal skills, professionalism and the ability to work with a diverse range of clients and professionals.
  5. Demonstrate data driven decision-making strategy with appropriate and precise references.

SPORTS BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The Sports Business Administration (SBA) is a student-run organization comprised of individuals who aspire to enrich their educational experience with applied sport management, business, and wellness opportunities outside the classroom. SBA seeks to provide opportunities for professional networking, working with guest speakers, group outings, and becoming more involved in local communities. SBA is open to any student at DC with an interest in advancing their career in the sports industry.
