Join us for 2015 Welcome Week.  Each day is packed with events and activities that allow you to laugh, learn, and connect with others.  Please note that ALL events are required for first-year students regardless of commuter/residence status and sport affiliation, unless otherwise noted. 



Friday, August 21


10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

First-Year and Second-Year Student Move-In

Residence Halls

Leave the heavy lifting to us. Move-in crew members will be available throughout the day to help transfer all your gear into your residence hall room. Also, the Yellow Jacket Band will be playing music for you at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm!

11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

St. John's UCC Picnic

Outside McReynolds Hall

Take a break from unpacking boxes and join us for our annual luncheon sponsored by St. John’s United Church of Christ.

A focus on Multiculturalism
Hubbard Banquet Room & Schomburg Auditorium

Diversity Awareness: Students will participate in activity designed to teach students about the multicultural environment of a college campus.  Students will work together to gain perspective and understanding about the experiences of students who are different from themselves.  
*Required for ALL First-Year Students

Casino Night
Whitney Lobby

Try your hand at our friendly casino! Students can spend the night playing black jack, poker, craps, spinning the roulette wheel, or hanging out in the BINGO room. Everyone is welcome. Your favorite faculty and staff members are on hand to deal out more than grades tonight! Casino Night goes from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. in the Whitney Lobby.

Sexual Assault Prevention Workshops

We’ll be having talk-back sessions about Sexual Assault Prevention and give you the opportunity to ask questions, learn about campus procedure and know your right and responsibility as a student and citizen.

Pick Up Location every half an hour behind the Res Halls

Need some supplies for that Res Room? Or just want to tag along for the ride? We’ll have shuttles hitting up Walmart throughout the night to get you what you need! More details TBA.

Meet with the Dean of the McMaster School for Advancing Humanity to learn about Domestic travel safety and policies. This will last approximately one hour and is a required session since many students will be traveling throughout their years here at DC!

Project 701 Presentation

Project 701 is a really innovative student-run non-profit at DC.  It gives our students an opportunity to develop, create, manage, and run their own service projects; to develop their entrepreneurial and leadership skills; to get great experience for their resumes; and to do meaningful service that makes a difference in people's lives.  Incoming freshmen will hear from current DC students who run Project 701 about the range of different projects they can participate in and how to get involved.

My Body Sings Electric Band

My Body Sings Electric’s music resonates with a sense of playfulness and lust for life.  Call their music alternative.  Call it indie.  Call it pop.  Call it what you will, but when you connect with the tunes from these lovable misfits, you’ll feel as if you just met your five new best friends.  The band’s latest release, “Part 1: The Night Ends” showed impressive first week sales for a self-managed and unsigned band, reaching #1 on the Billboard Charts Rocky Mountain Regional and #156 for Billboard’s National Indie Chart.  Their video for the first album single, New Friends, earned a premiere on MTV Buzzworthy.  In 2014, their college dates have included time with Grouplove, and other notable bookings for 2014 including Riotfest with Weezer, New Found Glory, Slayer and many more.

Learn more about the music programs at DC and how you can get involved throughout the year. DC’s music faculty will be hosting a special performance at 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm in Schomburg just for you! Learn more about the music programs at DC and how you can get involved throughout the year and enjoy some yummy goodies provided by Music Programs in the McCann Lounge from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Lip Sync Battle

Come get your Jimmy Fallon on and battle students and staff in the first ever DC Lip Sync Battle!  We’ll pair you up based on “the luck of the draw” and judges will  tell you how well you performed!

At 6:00 pm, students who reside in Whitney and Jacket Suites will attend the Building Meetings in Schomburg run by Residence Life.  At 7:00 pm, students who reside in McReynolds will attend their meeting.

Bubble Ball Soccer
George M. Smart Athletic Center

Bubble Ball Soccer as become a full-fledged sport in Europe and is now growing rapidly in popularity in the US.  This is the only sport where ANYONE can take a tumble and have fun doing so.  Soccer balls, goals, bubble balls, and a referee are all provided.

This job fair is open to all students and will provide an opportunity for you to interact and learn more about local business and restaurant employment.

Office of Intercultural Relations Dinner and Dessert

Hubbard Banquet Room

Join the Office of Intercultural Relations (OIR) in a dinner-style informational that will provide you with all the programs and functions of the office. Presentations by organizations within OIR will provide any additional information students may need. Giveaways will happen throughout the night!

Sailesh, Hypnotist
Schomburg Auditorium

An experienced performer with more than 15 years under his belt, Sailesh, the Hypnotist has performed at a staggering 400+ colleges and universities.  He is the most sought after hypnotist and variety performer.  Dubbed, “the World’s Best Hypnotist,” his live show has been described as a cross between a concert and the best party ever!  Sailesh makes audience members the stars of the show, taking the entire audience on a journey using hypnosis, improve, music and interactivity to create a whole lot of laughter and a ton of fun!

Join Greek Life members to have some fun in the sun.  This crazy Slip & Slide event is becoming an awesome new tradition on campus!  Phi Sigma Chi will shoot some water down the tarp and you can slide right into the Water Olympics hosted by Alpha Xi Delta!
